Got an Update today...

Newbie
My commando downloaded an update today around 12 noon. I'm not sure what else it has done to it, but the home screen, the bar at the top is different. Instead of the grey/white colored it used to be, it's now black. when you pull it down it's the bar is grey and the 'page" is black.... also, the keyboard on messaging (handcent) is black and silver too. I haven't downloaded any skins or different keyboard either.

has anyone else had this update yet? or am i running behind because i keep force closing the innopath crap. i have not rooted it, so it's still stock, but i am reading up on it.

(i notice there is a few different ways that you are sposta do it. do i'm waiting till i can actually commit to do it.)

Welcome to gingerbread. How do you like it?
Sounds like that's what you got. My last update 050, arrived stealthily in the middle of the nite and I saw it the next morning. Your stuck as far as rooting then from what the word currently is. Until someone figures it out. Stock isn't bad imo. My commando runs very well on GB. Wish battery was better is all.

Can you get any updates without rooting?
Your phone will eventually prompt you to update or even send it to it. Or you can check it and force it to download and install. Only if unrooted. If you've been looking here at all you'll see issues with the rooted devices getting GB.

With rooting you can stop updates from even showing up.
It appears that you cannot update to GB if you have rooted and moved or removed any system apps, even if you unroot.
It appears that you cannot go backwards from GB.
It appears that you cannot root if you get the GB update.

Not good, eh?

Hey.....I also received some update in the night. I was sitting at my desk with the GzO plugged in when I heard a nasty foghorn beep. The message said that the phone couldn't finish the update because the memory was full. I have google books, bing, and a lot of crap in my app folder that I never allowed, and when I hit the SD Card tab in manage apps, it shows empty. I HATE being told (by the silence) what I must DL, or otherwise have on this phone. Is there any way to strip out whatever in the hell this 'update' pushed? I'm feeling like running a factory reset (after only saving what I WANT!) Oh yeah, when I'm in the manage app, "all" section, the new/updated installs (like bing) the uninstall is grayed out, so I don't know how to dump the programs that have no functioning "uninstall" button. HELP! (ALSO-Its VERIZONS update. Found a VZ Tone app I had not permitted also)

If the update failed....I doubt it added anythign to your phone.

If you clear enough memory to run the update......there is no current method of removing the extra stuff you don't want.

If you are still running Android version 2.2.1, then you can get rid of all the extra crap by Rooting the phone and using an app called Titanium Pro to remove them.

See the "All things Root" section of this forum. You will find everyhting you need there. Rooting is not for everyone.....it should not be done without gaining an understanding of the risks involved....you could ruin your phone.

If you do root it and you remove some of the extra programs....it is likely you will lose the ability to get future updates. This is where I am at the moment.

I'm rooted, but want to stop the update, it failed once but i dont want to be unrooted till they have a new root for GB, can anyone help? i've looked for the updater file in titanium backup but cant seem to find it so i can freeze it

Edit: think i got it from the root section

If you freeze or remove the app called "Innopath ActiveCare 1.0" your phone will not and can not update any longer.

I would suggest freezing rather than removing.
Those of us who have removed apps appear to be prevented from updating even if we wanted to. I know of at least one user who only froze apps and was able to do the update after unfreezing and unrooting.

Ok folks...just want to clarify something, Verizon Wireless does not push updates to your phones...the manufacturer does!!! Service providers cannot or do:cool: not push out software upgrades or downgrades....SHEESH!!!!

If you want to get upset about it you should at least get your facts straight.
Casio won't update your device either.
Updates are a responsibility that both Casio and Verizon have handed off to Innopath. They hired Innopath to take on this task.

i like the new keyboard look. the battery usage drain is still the same.. however, now i cannot download picture messages from anyone. you know the kind, the dirty ones with 30kb. so i'll be calling verizon and checking the situation. hopefully they can figure it out, with out sending me 3rd phone....

Yes, sir....GB is GingerBread in this case.

Nothing new to report. You can bet it will be a hot topic here if anyone figures out a way to root it.

I certainly hope someone cracks it!

I agree.....this phone is way better rooted.

I have a problem sending and receiving pictures now. all the time. before the update i could receive them and send them. not anymore. it might be able to download them the next day, but they take forever. anyone else have this problem? verizon has no idea why my phone does this. i have a ticket in the system, so they say they are checking the situation...

My pics send/receive fine, but wanted to comment on sending vids. It seems the size is very reduced since I updated. If it's more than about 3 or 4mb at most it says file size to big to load. Smaller ones work fine. I don't remember it being like this before, but not positive.

I have even tried sending at a smaller resolution and small pixel size as well. Also when ever I get the fwd ones, you know the kind of that everybody sends out. I have even reverted back to factory settings 2xs . So I don't know what I'm going to do about it. I'm past my 14day guarantee too. Shame.
