Got Droid 3 for $55!!

When I try to upgrade through Amazon, the price shows as $129.99 and another $29.99 for the monthly data plan.

I upgraded at the store earlier today and ended up paying over $230 (inc. tax and whatever other fees). I think I'll return the one I bought earlier and just upgrade through Amazon instead.

To the OP, how do I "ask for a refund if I paid more"?

It's $69.99 for new accounts, $129.99 if you're upgrading an existing line. The lower price is for new Verizon customers only.

There are many ways to get the money refunded if you paid more. Sometimes Amazon will refund you the difference if the drop the price shortly after you buy it, but you have to request it. Many credit cards also come with price protection. Used that on a Blu-Ray Drive for my PC and got $30 back. Price protection credit cards are great if you want to buy something right before Black Friday (rather than wait in line). Just get a print out of the BF deal and submit to your CC issuer after the sale, and you generally get the refund.

So if I return my upgraded phone, will I immediately be able to upgrade through Amazon or will it take a while for the upgrade to show up in the system again?

You'd have to ask Verizon. I've never done that and don't want to lead you down the wrong path by making assumptions.

If I were you, I'd call Verizon and explain that you're not happy with your phone and would like to return it and have the upgrade placed back on your account. Find out the process, time frame, and any charges (I think they charge $30-$35 to take a phone during the return period, but again, that's an assumption). Then, determine if all this hassle, whatever it may be, is worth going through to get that better deal.

I was on leave from deployment, and my choice was paying $199.99 to Verizon online for my Incredible and getting it the day I came home, or paying only $49.99 to Amazon and likely not getting it until the day I left for Iraq. I've never regretted paying that extra $150 for convenience.

Amazon wireless does have some pretty good deals but for those willing to take a little time I would advise giving Verizon a call. They are pretty happy about getting the Droid 3 out to people. I just got done with them and for about 200$ after the mail in rebate I am getting 2 phones 2 cases and screen protectors as well as the first 3 months of insurance free. If you get someone willing to go talk to their supervisor they can do some pretty good stuff for you.

Argh. I was unable to get the upgrade discount from Amazon wireless to get the Droid 3 for $149 (I'm part of a family plan).

My actual upgrade discount eligibility is Dec 28th, but because I recently added a line to my account, I am eligible right now. I confirmed this in person at a Verizon store. But of course, Amazon wireless either does not or cannot recognize my current eligibility.

Anyway around this? Any advice or tips?

But alas I am not a good negotiator, so I may just get it from the store for $199.

If you just call Verizon and tell them that you are thinking about ordering off of Amazon is there anything they can do to make it worth it for you to just get it from them most of the sales people will try and hook you up. I know I was grumpy about the paying more from Verizon so I let them know I saw it on Amazon and they asked if they could put me on hold and then asked if there were any accessories I would like since they couldn't drop the price. Also if you go through Verizon you can do the buy one get one

The $35 dollar restocking fee made it not worth returning, since in the end I wouldn't have ended up saving very much and I would have had to wait to have a new phone sent to me. By the way, does anyone else get as much attitude from Verizon employees as I do? They're constantly rude and unprofessional when I go in.

In person I am usually treated like shit. I have found there is usually one or two people that don't suck at the stores. They usually tend to be doing something behind the counter hidden in the back. On the other hand over the phone I have always been treated exceptionally well.

sadly i got a droid 2 global about 3 months ago. anything i could do??? any ideas that could net me a droid 3?

I felt the same way when the Incredible 2 came out 6-7 months after I bought my Incredible. Best way to handle it? Realize that there will be a Droid 4 and a Droid 5 (probably under a new name by then). Just lock in the best phone you can for your contract, enjoy it for 2 years, then repeat. Don't stress over new technology as something better will ALWAYS come out.

eh yeah i know that but its not like im a YEAR in to it, im about 3 months in to it and it just irritates me. Considering saving up 250 bucks, selling my D2G for 200, buying a droid 3 for 450 outright from verizon. thatway i keep my unlimited data

Bought mine yesterday from verizon.

My only question will I have to pay an activation fee if I return and buy from AMazon?

They don't really explain much on Amazon. So you buy it and go to the store and activate it or it comes to you activated? who would transfer the numbers.

I bought mine at Verizon yesterday and see if it's worth it. I got a good employee discount (50 bucks off phone, waived activation fee and 22% off monthly bill).

70 +35 restocking fee+ possible 35 activation fee = 105$ is that no tax too?

Am I still considered a new customer if I return before the 14 day policy?

You buy it, they ship it to you, and you to a pretty much automated activation by calling a weird number. then the phone is activated. I ordered 2 Incredible 2's like this, and I have decided to switch atleast one to a droid 3, so I called back within 30 day, and said I am having reception issues in my basement (which is true) and requested and exchange to try out a droid 3, they where happy to obliege, only took a few minutes, and they overnighted me a droid 3, due to arrive this morning, then I have 30 days to return the incredible 2. Pretty stocked to try out this droid 3.
