Got Mine

So, the wife treated me to my Nexus 5 yesterday.

I was after the 32gb model, but after some thought I decided to get the 16gb Black model.
I only got 16gb due to my S3 being overloaded with apps and games that I dont use, so hopefully the lack of storgage will help me keep a lid on pointless apps.
It'll also help me embrace the cloud more!!

Luckily for me Carphone Warehouse Preston had one left when I called in yesterday. Its not left the house yet as my covers not arriving until next week.

Just need to try and sell my S3 now.............

Mine is sitting at the local delivery depot. Hoping it will be here Monday. Have you had much of a play with it yet?

I did the basics last night, imported contacts, set up email, facebook, tapatalk etc.
Had a little play with the camera, seems ok.

Battery was pretty good as i was messing for an hour or so but hardly drained.

It is extremely fast and smooth though.

I'm currently debating whether or not to add Nova Launcher prime, or leave it as it is for a while.

No mate, I just called in the off chance in the middle of the afternoon and managed to get their last one.
They were only stocking Black 16gb models in Preston, said they didnt even have a code for the 32gb model

Nice one mate. On Saturday morning I decided I wanted one and checking Carphone Warehouse online stock said all stores were out of stock. Tried to call the local ones to me but no answer. I decided to go in to store anyway to see if they had a demo to play with. Turned out they had a black 16GB in stock - snapped it right up!

So far loving it an awful lot! Screen is so crisp and clear. Navigating around from app to app is just effortless and really snappy, no delay or stutter whatsoever, even when moving from fullscreen games.

Few things I've noticed - can't sync Facebook contacts, but I think this is Google's policy now. I know there are apps that will do it but I'm gonna leave it for now.

When a call ends it stays on that call-ended screen indefinitely and the only pressable button is the back button. On my S2 I used to be able to open the contact at this point or compose an SMS.

Had an issue with Google Now not showing my weather Cards but that's somehow resolved itself.

You can't say "Okay, Google" for voice activation without it being on US-English. As I have my language as UK-English the hotwords feature is not available.

Otherwise LOVE IT.

It's here.

First impressions are very good. The phone is sleek looking and the back actually looks very smart whilst being grippy too. The back marks easily but marks wipe off with no effort.

As soon as I switched the device on and went through the Data and Wi-Fi set up an Android system update started so I don't know what OS version it ships with. That is currently under way.

I can already notice the understated design in the OS, particularly with the notification shade, battery meter, signal bars etc all a simple grey/off white colour.

More to see in a few minutes!

Mine arrived this morning before 9.00am, I have to wait until after work to play with it though, and hope my new SIM has turned up as well. But I'm already impressed with the hardware, its beautiful and really well put together.

Initial thoughts
- super quick to use
- camera reassuringly solid at first
- disappointing lack of kitkat bar in the box
- WHERE THE HELL ARE WIDGETS!?

I want an Andy shaped Kit Kat, too.

Can't you long press on a blank part of a home screen to bring up the widgets menu?

Found widgets.

Can't find a way of displaying battery remaining %.

Also no stock widgets for torch, alarm and a few other things. Guess that's a downside of stock android vs touchwiz that im used to

^For alarm, you can tap the Analogue Clock or Digital Clock Widget if you use it.

-This thing is lightning quick, and responsive I love it.
-The screen is bright and sharp, comparable to the HTC One
-It's comfortable and light
-It looks good in black (although see minor later comment)
-Sound quality (ring tones, notifications) seem pretty good and thankfully you can set a lower volume than the HTC One
-I like Hangouts integration of SMS meaning you can have all "chats" in the same app
-16GB left over 12GB free for apps and media which I think is good
-Notification light I've missed you! Lightflow seems to work on initial test.

Some changes to the UI which are a little unexpected like:

-Widgets no longer in the App draw (long press home screen instead which has a nice new UX swiping home screens to choose one, settings, wallpapers).
-I also like the "always there" Google Now screen which acts like your left home screen.
-You start with 3 home screens and can add more by dragging apps/widgets to the right of your last screen.
-It's easy to get the "OK Google" command to work by selecting English-US in Google Now.
-Camera seems reasonable on quick testing. Focus and shooting are quick and I like the changed quick swipe on the lock screen (I thought 4.2/4.3 lock screen widgets were a bit messy).

It also looks like Google has fallen out with Live Wallpaper, with Phase Beam the only one available (unless I'm missing something).

2 VERY minor annoyances:

-The back of the phone gets fingerprints very easily. They're easy to wipe off but it's unavoidable for the phone to look a smudgy mess in every day use.
- The protruding, none-centered camera causes the phone to rock on flat surfaces.

So, overall - GREAT! I'd be surprised if anyone was disappointed.

> disappointing lack of kitkat bar in the box

One of my coworkers has KitKat bars in a tin in his office for guests. I guess I'll go over and grab one when my wife's phone arrives. I had it shipped to the office. BTW, I bring a bag of KitKats and Reese cups to add from time to time.

aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh Delivery attempted 5 minutes before my wife got home.
Sent to my local post office.
I finish work at 5:30. They close at 7.
Straight home to collect the delivery notice and back out again i think.
