Help Got new Atrix, can't start using it

Hello guys!
First of all sorry for my english.

I just got my Atrix phone, which I bought from motorola website for $600 and change.

I inserted T-Mobile sim card I have, its a prepaid plan with no 3g connection.
Atrix wants me to setup Motoblur account, and I can not do that cause I dont have 3g connection.

I then tried wifi in my hotel and in the nearest restaurant, both networks require to put check box during first login in order to have connection, but I cant even open browser and can't go to the menu.

Then I asked my buddy he has T-mobile sim too with 3G, I tried that and got system message that network is unidentified or something.

Im new to the US and I don't know how this contract system works
But I thought I was buying unlocked phone for $600?

What should I do to make it running? Buy one of those remote unlock codes for $20? Or there are other free ways to do that?

What's the site that you bought your Atrix from?

First off, did your phone come with a SIM card? If so, put the sim card in. Wifi should have worked on your phone when you turned it on. When I turned it on, I was promted to set up my WIFI, enter the network key.

I was not able to access the phone without the 'proper carrier' sim card.

I bought this remote unlock code from cellunlock website
Used coupon android50 to get 20$ off, today got my code, it took them 2 full days.

First attempt - phone is unlocked. It worked. But still at first I couldn't bypass this motoblur setup. I had to remove my t-mobile sim, insert it to my old phone, enable data roaming, buy 1 day unlimited pass for $1.49, then put sim card back to atrix and bingo!

Contacts imported, everything seems to be working, except one thing - WIFI.

In my hotel as I said I have free wifi by ATT. You have to enter passcode on their page for first time login. So I do that and get my message as usual - "You are connected to the internet". It works for a little while, maybe 2 minutes, them I get system message on the phone - "ATT Wifi Hot Spot Status" Unable to confirm eligibility, please call Customer CARE at..."

What should I do with it?
Root my device, will it help?

I am glad you were able to get it working and connected, sucks about the wifi.

The issue you are running into, from what I was able to lookup, is AT&T wifi hotspots are only available to AT&T wireless customers that have an active account and data plan on thier phone. Since you do not have an active AT&T data plan and an AT&T sim card in the phone, the service will disconnect.

To connect with a smartphone to an AT&T Wifi hot spot, here are the requirments to be able to use the AT&T Wifi Hotspots:
  • Turn Wi-Fi on.
  • Must be located at an AT&T Wi-Fi Hotspot.
  • Must have an applicable data plan.
  • Must have an active account in good standing.
  • Must be able to send and receive text messages.

This question is the one that stands out:

A: With AT&T Wi-Fi Basic, you get unlimited Internet access at thousands of AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots nationwide. Wi-Fi Basic is free to customers who subscribe to AT&T High Speed Internet, Fast Access DSL, and wireless customers with qualifying data plans. Wi-Fi Basic is also available to LaptopConnect customers with qualifying DataConnect service plans.

So unless you signup for AT&T cell service and data, you will not be able to use thier wifi hotspots on your phone.
 
did you get ur phone to start working because i have the same problem..i have tmobile but i have the atrix with at&t and i am trying to use it but it says to enter SIM network unlock PIN???

Your phone is locked to AT&T and requires you to SIM unlock the ATrix for it to work with other carriers.

If you have had your phone for over 6 months, you can simply call AT&T and ask for the unlock code free of charge :)
