Root Gparted and forming a partition

I'm at the point of pulling out what little hair I have left.

Dreaded rooting the phone, but that was surprisingly easy :)

I haven't added any ROM's yet as I wanted to create the EXT3 partition on my sd card. After many hours of trying to get Gparted to work, I finally accessed it, and following SUroots guide got as far as the phone being recognized as "high android Phone" I changed the icon to pda as he suggested, and from there things have gone down hill. I have no idea what I did, but the phone is now recognised as a high usb composite device, and I can't get it back to the high android phone. I have formatted the sd card via a reader, but this has not made any different when I re connect everything. Also when everything is connected I can only see one drive which is 512MiB, no other drives are present.

Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated

If you're using you desire, it will only show partitions in recovery AND NOT in windows, only Gparted.

On the Gparted GUI, the left hand partition should be the main fat partition and to the right should be the ext. Could you have got this the wrong way round?

It was in Gparted, and as is typical with me, after 5hrs of fighting and getting no-where, then giving up to ask for help, it finally decides to find the right drive.

So hopefully now I have a partitioned sd card, and I'm off to do a titanium back up, having just carried out a nandroid one.

Next providing all is well will be the new ROM.
