GPS and battery power

AVP

So, I was on the MobileDefense site and they said that having your GPS on really doesn't use any energy unless you have apps that are actually using them. I've had my GPS off this whole time thinking it would suck up my battery power running in the background. Can anyone shed some light on this subject?

Having it on all the time hasn't really had a noticeable effect on my battery life. However, there have been circumstances when the browser (or some other application) had some issue where it couldn't determine my location, and the satellite icon was on for most of the day. In this case I did notice a big impact on battery life.

yes..the problem here is that if it is on all the time you have no control over it and if its needed for whatever reason it will use battery.
