GPS / Battery Drain issue

Ok, so I used my GPS today, in the car dock connected with the car charger. Drove about 130 miles using the GPS navigation. Started off with the battery charged at 70%...by the time I got home the battery was at 60%..The charger was connected the entire time and you could see the lighting bolt in the battery icon....

Basically, the phone used more juice with GPS navigation than the charger could put back. Ive done the with my OG droid, Droid 2 global and iPhone, never had that happen.

Could I have a bad device? The battery seems to drain with normal use...Another example, when to dinner tonight and in 1 1/2 hours of very very little use battery dropped from 60% to 40%..

Droid Incredible did that. HTC slowed the charging rate on purpose because they saw problems of the phone/battery overheating from charging to fast while also getting hot from the GPS/screen going. So they took the extremely overly cautious route of slowing the charge rate down.

I'm not saying they used this logic for the Razr, hey maybe your unit is messed up? I dunno. Have to wait to see what other owners come back with, or maybe ask Verizon? Maybe its your car charger a well?

The answer is simple. Your car's charger output did not provide enough juice for the phone to get charged. While using GPS you not only use GPS itself, but also the screen is on al the time. Both of these together draw a lot of power. More than your charger was able to put into the Razr.

Nothing new and nothing to worry about.

What kind of charger did you use in your car? An old one that you already owned? A Motorola car charger specific for the Droid Razr? Or a Verizon-branded charger that you purchased when you got the phone?

While I tend to agree with others that the charge rate was lessened while the GPS was active (to reduce heat issues), it could also be that your charger is only rated to output 500mA when 1000mA is needed...
