GPS brightness

I was wondering if there is a way to get the GPS (Google Maps) brighter if the Phone (Droid2 Global) is in the car dock? It is really hard to see in the light.

Go into your phone's settings and adjust the brightness. More convenient still: install a screen brightness widget on your home screen for quick brightness adjustments.

If you use Tasker, you can have the screen brightness adjust automatically for certain apps. Pretty simple to do.

Also, FYI, the app is called Google Maps. You want brightness to be set higher when you use Maps, not GPS. There are many apps that will use the GPS hardware in your phone to determine your location. Don't want you to be confused, or confuse anyone else.

Tasker is great for some, but it isn't cheap and it's background services just add to the mess. You don't need it to just adjust brightness easily.

I have no way of knowing whether the OP has Tasker already or not. It was just a suggestion.

Plus, Tasker can do a LOT of things. If people see many many threads where we say "Tasker can do that" they will realize it is well worth the purchase price.

I don't understand your comment about background services. Many many apps run in the background on your phone. Do you avoid things like Gmail, Weather, Widget Locker, Lookout, etc. just because they run in the background?

Pointed out above but Google Maps isn't GPS. It's a GPS app. Many don't understand the distinction but it is an important difference. The GPS receiver and your GPS apps are entirely separate.

InvisiBright is free and has no background services. Set your brightness with 2 taps from any application.
Tasker isn't free, has background services and would require 0 taps if setup properly. Choose wisely and perform your own due diligence, OP.

I never implied that Tasker wasn't useful, I was just proposing a lighter solution to the OP's question. When I got Tasker, it was for greater reasons than just needing to control brightness .
True, but load enough various "lighter" solutions and it might be better to use Tasker, given its versatility.

OP didn't mention a preference for a more universal solution like Tasker or more appliance-like apps. Either approach is viable.

As with many other things, one size doesn't fit all.

Worth is always highly subjective. For some, the learning curve alone negates its benefits.
