Root GPS broken

So I have seen in a couple threads people with a similar problem as myself. GPS can locate me but once I start navigation it starts jumping around like crazy, never again homes in on my exact location and becomes useless.

I have the tmobile zmax variant on metropcs service. I started with rooted stock 4.4.2. GPS worked great. I then moved to butternoob v2 and GPS went wonky. I then moved to CM RC5, back to butternoob v2 and now to AICP.

GPS is still doing the same crap it was doing on my butternoob switch. Doesn't seem to matter what I switch to.

I've seen others with this issue who have not had any progress with it.

Anyone know of a potential fix for this issue? I've tried every setting possible and a few GPS fix apps.

You could either call Tmobile and see if there is some kind of reset they recommend. Just say you're suddenly having issues minus the whole being rooted and flashing ROMs part. If they mention an OTA say you already did.
Or, double check your Google location settings to make sure you're allowing them and your applications to track your physical location 24/7 with high accuracy.

Thanks for the help, but like I said I have tried all the settings. I think this is likely a firmware or GPS.conf issue that I caused in flashing different ROMs. I probably won't ask T-Mobile what to do because I've altered the phone so much

Have you tried going back to stock?

Nah. I considered it but I don't want to have to root again. It took me two weeks of almost constant attempts to get it to finally take.

I am just curious if there are other ways of potentially fixing it. I'm not sure where GPS config takes place. I'm pretty sure its not kernel. I thought maybe firmware? Sensors? No idea

And thanks for your help

If the fear of having to struggle to get root back is all that is stopping you from going back to stock to see if that fixes the problem, you should try flashing the unrooted stock ROM. Let me explain. You will still have twrp recovery installed after you flash the stock ROM. Because of this, all you have to do to get root back is download the SuperSU zip from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu then reboot the phone and as soon as the screen goes black, hold the volume up button until you see the twrp splash screen. Then you just flash the supersu zip and reboot system and walaa. As long as you keep twrp installed rooting is always quick and easy. You can take that to the bank.

Thankyou thankyou! I'll report back when I have some time to complete the process

So to all users affected by GPS issues, I thought Google maps was the issue, which is part of the problem, but was still eventually having lock issues. I used this recommendation for TopNTP and had variable results before finally realizing I wasn't using the switcher zips to gain root access. With TopNTP proper settings, my GPS now locks in a couple seconds and performs flawlessly. Settings are: north america, united states, generic, Google. Be sure to use the proper switcher zips for your ROM to make the GPS.conf settings stick.

Big thanks to 954wrecker for this tip! This is a flawless fix and my GPS now performs better than ever.

I tried this method and it worked even better than TopNTP. Thanks!

Note: you have to # all lines that start with SUPL, not SUPR
Nice. That's what I'm talking about.
It's the best GPS fix I've found. I have literally zero problems. I use my GPS everyday for most of the day and it's consistent throughout the trip.
...right SUPL, fixed.
