Help GPS function

I'm taking a road trip end of the month for a mini vacation with the son before he heads back to school.

My dedicated GPS is an older unit and the maps are out about 1.5 years. Not a big deal since roads do change but it's not like it's to the point where I'd get lost.

I've used the GPS feature on the phone a few times to find something local in a pinch but never for routing a trip.

So my question which of the 2 apps do you like better? Google Maps or the Your Navigator?

Anyone here actually use the phone as a device quite often or do you still turn to your dedicated unit?

I use the navigator app ( little blue triangle), not your navigator from uscc, exclusively now. Put the garmin in the wife's van. Love navigator. U can speak your destination as opposed to having to punch it in. U can also scroll on the map much easier while in navigation. Main drawback is battery consumption. Make sure you have it plugged in while using it.

Definitely use with a car charger. Also make sure you turn off Google's "make sure the route goes through the 'hood or the set of Deliverance II" unless you enjoy scenic backroads.

wow didn't even realize there were 3 different GPS functions on this phone. The nice thing with my navigator is you can add things online and it syncs with your phone.

Ordered a car mount for the phone and have the car charger. Oh well I guess I'll try them all and see which one works the best.

Any of these have live traffic capability?

No sure how live it is, but navigator does show traffic. I live in a small town and don't use it that much.

I've got a 3,000mAh extended life battery just for that reason. I only have to charge about every 3 to 4 days depending on how much I use it.

I tried Your Navigator, but I hated it and ultimately removed it after I rooted my phone. The standard Google Navigator works a lot better, in my experience.

well i'm a day away from taking the trip and seeing what works good and what doesn't. I'll make sure I report when I get back.

Three different GPS functions? I don't see three different settings.

Does the navigator on the phone use data and go against the 5GB data cap? And, are we talking about "your navigator" from USCC or Google? both were loaded on my phone.

Thanks in advance

The GPS function itself does not use any data. However, the info from Google Maps and Navigator (as well as the USCC version) does count as data.

You would need to go on a veeeeeeeeeery long trip to risk going over your cap, though.
