Help GPS issues when screen goes out

Ok, so here's my first gripe about my Maxx, while taking a trip to the mountains this week I used google maps a lot to find my way around. Not navigation, just maps. While using maps, if the screen timed out (turned off) I would loose GPS lock when I turned the screen back on. Sometimes after a brief pause it would relocate, overtimes I would have to back out of the maps app and re-open the app to regain GPS lock...has anyone else had this problem? Is it a google maps issue out a phone issue?
Thanks

I've faced this issue. It takes a little while to pin point our location once the screen turns off. Also, I could not save my current location as a map point, to use it at later times. The best workaround I found was using "GPS essentials" app from market. This app keeps the GPS lock intact, records the route while we are navigating if we want to, allows us to save a waypoint, it has a gps logger, gives us many other details such as our speed-altitude-ETA-battery consumption-compass etc etc and finally allows us to export our saved locations as KML files to import them into Google maps, google earth etc apps. For more details you may visit https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mictale.gpsessentials&hl=en

Generally I am using Navigation rather than just Maps so don't run into this much. But I do recall the same frustrations when I'd use just maps like you're describing. Some users have had better luck with apps like GPS Status and Tools or GPS Test. It may or may not help you out. Worth a shot though.
