GPS limiter app?

I use an application for work that utilizes the GPS, and it's draining my battery really fast even with the 3500 mAh extended battery.

Is there an application or a configuration out there that will perhaps limit the number of times per hour or per minute, etc that the GPS is allowed to be pinged?

GPS isn't pinged. It's a receiver only. Not a transmitter. It takes a lot of juice to run the radio and do the triangulation calculations. And as far as I know, when it's on, it's on (and crunching the data). I think that a periodic polling would need to be implemented from your GPS-based app itself (e.g. turning on GPS once every 5 minutes). I'd guess that if an outside app overrode your GPS-based app and only let the GPS be turned on once every 5 minutes, that your GPS-based app would crash. I could be wrong.
