Help GPS location problems!

Nexus 5 recently decided not to lock GPS location. i usually dont use it so it's off most of the time. But sometimes when im in the city i have to use it.. and when i turn on location services(high accuracy) Nexus 5 just won't lock the position. Only restart helps! A couple of weeks ago everything was fine until just recently :o . i did a full factory reset only to find out that it didn't help

Run GPS Status to see what's happening. Is the GPS finding satellites? Is it locking on them? The problem could be with the GPS hardware, the GPS firmware or the app you're using - you have to find out which one is broken before you can fix it (if it's actually user-fixable).

If a factory reset didn't help then sounds like a return to base situation unless you have invalidated your warrantee some how.

Only other option at this point would surely be completely reflashing either with stock or a custom ROM. might help if the firmware is corrupt somehow.

You may want to take a look at the video below, may be the fix you need. There are quite a few complaints out there, especially in the Google forums about the Nexus 5 losing GPS connectivity. This is supposedly caused by a bad connection between the pins on motherboard and the GPS antenna ribbon cable on the back cover. If your phone cycles through warm/freezing temps, I can see it happening.

If your warranty is already void, wouldn't hurt to try, right?

well i just tested.. It took me 2-3 minutes to lock my location. I don't know... maybe something's wrong with the network. It usually used to take take like 2-5 seconds (with high accuracy) to find itself but now it takes 2-3 minutes. I disabled Google now location reporting.. because it's ON by the default and i don't want to report my location to google now even when location services are ON.

Just came across this thread. Of the five Nexus 5's I've purchased for my family, not one has this issue. The ones we have at work are also fault free, based on that data I must deduct that this only affects certain phones.

Maybe it affects the first batch.. Because i got my Nexus 5 as soon as it came out! But gps location services worked perfectly until just recently. A lot of people saying that this caused by software and not hardware.

I am having this issue as well and I have one of the first batches as I ordered mine the day it was released.

I am working with them now to try and get a new Nexus 5.

I tried it in Safe mode and well it worked but it still lost my location.

There were quite a few complaints about the Nexus 5 GPS losing its fix due to a bad connection between the mother board pins and the GPS antenna on the inside of the battery cover. Simple fix involves removing the battery cover and shimming the antenna ribbon cable with a piece of index card.

You can find the complaints in the Google forums, and the fix mentioned on YouTube. I believe this involved the first run of Nexus 5 models, and those who tried it said it worked.

Just throwing that out there.... Mind the warranty, though.

Yeah I found all of that, but I figure it is still under warranty (a year I think) and this way I can get a new one which should hopefully fix the issue.
