Help GPS Navigation : Eperia X10i

I am new to Android, Australian user, coming from Nokia and not quite sure how the GPS nav works on Android. With Nokia, a free service, not using your data allowance, you just load the maps you want for free fom their OVI site. I have looked at the sonyericsson manual and they talk about wisepilot $49.95 for life time use and i have seen in forums members talking about google maps. Any recommendations for the best maps to load on your phone that do not use your data allowance and give good driving directions. Thank you from Bob for any suggestions.:)

First off....throw out the manual.

Next. Wisepilot is free in the Market

I have no recommendations. I have a GPS in my car.
