Something thing I have observed, thanks to another poster, is that my Body Glove case appears to have an observable adverse impact on SNR.
With the phone NOT in flight mode, I cleared my GPS cache, powered off the phone, removed the case, restarted the phone and accessed GPS Test as quickly as the system would allow me. I had a good lock on 7 sats within 45 seconds and observed my phone (held in hand, outside but near a building) over a timed five minute period. The phone was constant in see/use with 8-11/7-9. In general the SNR stayed above 32, mostly at 35-36 on 4-5 sats and maintained 40-41 on 3 sats fairly consistantly, 43 on another (sometimes even peaking at 44).
With GPS Test still running I moved the phone around only enough to install the BG case again and then for fairness sake, gave it a full minute to adjust to having the case on. The number of seen/used sats was still consistant with my previous 5 minute observation. I then observed for a further five minutes and noted that at no point did any sat rise above 40 SNR (the previous 43 sat was pretty steady at 38-39) and most hovered in the 29-33 range, and some of the sats that shifted between seen and used were at 19-23 with occasional dips down to an observed low of 12.
Although far from being a conclusive scientific study, observed evidence shows, at least on my phone, that the BG case does attenuate the signal for GPS. Could this possibly impact the quality of signal other user are getting and perhaps their ability to lock onto GPS sats?
If any other case user tries this test I'd be interested to know if your observations were similar to mine. Oh, and maybe include what case you are using on the phone. Understanding that just about anything between the antenna and the signal will likely interfere to some extent, having some data on how much interference might be useful or interesting.
