Help GPS running in background while driving

FutureMD

Newbie
Have the verizon G4 recently updated to android M on a fresh wipe. I've been noticing on the power consumption graph in GSam that the gps runs in the background for the entire time that I'm in a moving vehicle even though I'm not actively using any apps that should use it (ie: navigation).

Wifi/bluetooth scanning is disabled and so is Verizon Location Agent.

What may be causing the GPS to run and how do I stop it? Thanks.

It is probably the Android Device Manager or Google Now if you have it set to give you cards of places you may be interested in travelling / how long back home etc.
Hove a look in the Google Settings app>Location see if your GPS is set to High accuracy etc or even on at all. Then have a look again in the Google Settings app "Search & Now" then "Now Cards" try unselecting "Commute and Time to Leave". Also check in "Security" in the Google Settings if remotely locate the device is checked.
I leave all these things on anyway as I find most of them useful/not too much of a burden on my battery, so I can't be sure that these will be the problem or if it will work but you can give those a shot.

Yeah, I love my google now location based cards :).
Checked location settings and though i have gps set to high accuracy, all the apps in the recent location request list including play services and google app are all showing low battery use, so I assume their gps polling would be limited.
Fun update however.. I haven't moved for the last hour and GSam is showing that my gps is continuing to run. Ok then.

Turn off high accuracy mode for the location finder if you are not using GPS. Many apps, including the phone itself, will use GPS every time you wake up the phone. This isn't new to mm either.
