GPS Tracking

When I used to have G1 by T-mobile, I used to have GPS Tracker by Instamapper.

Now since I got a a new LG Optimus V by VirginMobile, I want to install the program again but before I do that, I wonder if there's a better program out there now?

That depends on what you want it for. I used to use it for locating my phone if I lost it. I now use Where's My Droid. For that. For a simple way to send your location to someone I would suggest glympse. And FWIW google latitude can do both of these things and it's built into the phone already, just enable it in maps.

I've got Instamapper on my android and it works a treat. It has basic permissions and with the free account on the internet a great way for friends or family to track you (or the phone) in realtime. I found it hard to track down the app in the market but found it after awhile.

It isn't a covert tracking app ( I can't find one in the market ) and people get confused with this.

It's a really good app.

Always clarify exactly what you mean by "better". It's a highly subjective word. What's better in your opinion may not be to the next person. What features would make it better to you? Are there other aspects of GPS Tracker that you want changed? Be specific. Never assume that your preferences are universal.

For GPS tracking I use My Tracks. It's difficult to tell if it would be better for you without the information above. GPS Tracker offers location sharing which My Tracks isn't designed for. I'm not going to fully compare the apps here. You can check out My Tracks and see whether or not it suits your needs. Don't overlook existing discussion on GPS tracking apps. This definitely is not the first thread on the topic by a long shot.

Now many tracking softwares are available in the market but the main question is about most user friendly and more featured software. I am using tracking software for my kid and I am satisfied with its performance. The price is also very reasonable.

And are you going to tell us which app it is too...? Or is that a state secret?

Glympse is pretty user friendly. Not sure if that suits your need, but give it a shot.

That's right, Glympse* is a convenient service. But it needs to be activated specifically, each session anew, on the phone to be tracked. And it's max setting is 4 hours (extendable by 15 minutes per tap).
That's ideal for people like me who don't want to be tracked any more or longer than absolutely necessary. Or by anyone not absolutely necessary.
But it's probably not suitable for
alexsam's kid's phone, because alexsam a) doesn't want the tracker to expire after a few hours, and b) needs the tracker to be impossible to uninstall or de-activate.
So what alexsam wants for his kid's phone is the functionality of Latitude (probably stock on his phone) and to hide and/or lock it with an applocker.

A great feature of Glympse, imo, is that it works on most smartphone OSs and with most web browsers.
