Help gps turning on and off on its own?

Does the G1 have the ability to auto-turn off the gps if no program is using it? I thought you could only enable/disable gps manually, but lately it seems like it's turning on and off on its own in my status bar.

?

Hi David and Welcome to AF forums!

As far as I know , the GPS is not in use on it's own , a program must be using it to show the GPS symbol in your status bar.

I would recommend downloading an App Manager like program like "Advanced Task Manager" and end all the programs. You'll then notice the GPS symbol disappear , hence backing up the theory it is an app using it.

Another thing you could do is end the tasks one by one until it disappears meaning you can pin-point which program is using it.

Carl C is right the gps is only on when its needed by an app.

If you turn it on in settings, it will only show when its being used.
