gps without sim card

I have an indulge that I use as a PDA. I dont have service I just use the wifi. GPS has always worked fine when not in wifi areas. This phone has its own GPS that works without data.

now I noticed if I remove my sim card I get 4 times the battery life YIPPEE!!

Problem, GPS no longer works out of wifi. Now why is that?

You could try looking in Settings->Location, tap on the "Location mode" and set it to "Device only". It's probably on "High accuracy" which uses wifi and mobile network data to improve acquisition speed.

Are you sure you've got the GPS radio enabled and weren't using your network location to determine coordinates?

what app are you trying to use? Because for example, if you're using google maps, u need a data connection of some sort, whether it's wifi or 3g/4g, for it to draw the map as you navigate.

its google maps + backitudes.

but my point is with a sim card it works with no data. I can drive all over town and it tracks me via GPS, not wifi. There is no wifi driving around town, I wish there was, tha'd be cool. Though I take out the sim card and now it does not work. Now when I'm in a wifi area it works fine.

no such thing as "location mode" on my phone.

Which version of Android does it use? I can't remember when that option appeared in the settings but it's certainly there in recent versions.

Without the option in settings I'm not sure how you can turn off the requirement to have a network available. There probably is a way, but I don't know it I'm afraid.

Re "location mode", menu item names sometimes vary with manufacturer as well as OS version. But there should be something in location settings to turn on GPS and turn off using wireless network info for location.

That's the setup I normally use anyway, because turning wireless location on also means letting Google collect that info, and that doesn't appeal to me (so if you really can't find anything in your location settings, maybe check privacy settings? Not used Froyo since 2010, so hard to remember any quirks).

Then that maybe bad for me, because that is what I want. I use google location history online to see where the phone has gone.

man more problems, time server is MIA so times is always messed up. Sim card is back in.

So let me ask this, why is the battery life x 4 with no sim? Can I disable whatever that card does or is looking for. I have done this already

I put in a code to my phone.
**583385## - Enable/Disable LTE or CDMA only Modes

This stops it looking for 4g but I cant disable both.

there are more codes here

Would anything else help?
