GrapheneOS on the 4 yet?

roamin1

Newbie
Longtime iPhone user looking into Pixel with GrapheneOS.
The information I saw showed the pixel 4 As being in the experimental stage.
I’m also having a difficulty finding a new 3.

Does anyone run GrapheneOS on their 4 yet?

can I do this?

thanks in advance

The Pixel 3 has been out of production for almost 2 years, so it's not surprising you are having trouble finding a new one.
If you do find one, bear in mind that the battery will have been in storage for about 2 years, which isn't fatal but also isn't ideal.

Hmmmm. Good point, Hadron. Thanks.

Well I've had GrapheneOS for about a week.

Its functional. But a few things annoy me.
There isn't a lock screen for an image.
The wallpaper automatically sits off to the right. You can't get it to center on the screen.
Cropping an image is difficult as well.
The camera and photo album are really cheap looking.

But it does work.

Every pic and video I've seen about it shows a phone with the grapheme logo in black on a white screen.
Every time I find a pic I upload it and end up with no locksceen and only about a quarter of it shows on the screen.

launchers are just added skin and controls how the home screen looks and feels. it also can control the app drawer as well. nova has some pretty cool effects and transitions that a like a lot. it is not completely necessary though.

and sometimes a custom rom takes sometime getting used to. i always say to give a custom rom at least a few weeks before forming an opinion if you like it or not.

So far I guess my nitpics are trivial.
The camera isn't as sexy as the pixel 4 camera has the capability to be.
And the 4 had a feature where you could squeeze the phone but that isn't supported.

And about the GrapheneOS keyboard. Idk if its a setting I haven't found or what, buy it has a mic button but talk to text isn't there. In fact the mic button doesn't do anything.

Bit I am liking it better overall all the time.

Well camera apps and keyboards are also things you can change. OpenCamera, for example, doesn't have all of the image processing of the Pixel camera but does give you much more control rather than Google's "take our automation, you don't need anything else" approach.

I can't comment on speech to text because I never use it. On the Pixel that stuff would be linked to Google's computers, so you'd need the Google stuff for it to work the same way, which defeats the point of installing Graphene, but what other speech to text options there are and whether they integrate with the Graphene keyboard I don't know.
