Help Great storage memory leak!

cerridwen33

Lurker
I have a Samnung Galaxy Grand Prime, unrooted, and every time I check on my free storage space it shows to be less and less. It leaks daily, without my installing any apps. The more, I uninstalled several apps with no great gain. What took me to do a factory reset, with great loss of data since recover didn't work. Now I have the less apps needed and memory is still leaking. For instance, this morning, after manually emptying cache in almost all apps, I got to 2.26 gb. I just used Internet to browse a thing and it went down to 2.23gb. Emptied cache once more to no avail. My mobile shows all this on an app that came with the phone called Smart Manager. I got CCleaner and Disk Usage. I cannot find what's wrong! I don't want to root my phone, just to recover my storage memory without going through the tedious process of empty cache several times a day and not being free to use my mobile as I wished!
Please help...!

Just guessing but it sounds like you might be micromanaging your Prime just a little too much. With only 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, it's a little low on system resources to begin with. Android's memory management is pretty sophisticated so you might want to just let it do it's job. Also, clearing app caches is generally a short term solution. Once an app is in actual use it will have to rebuild its cache anyway, so continuously clearing the cache just makes your phone work that much harder to keep functioning. If you're really in need of more storage space and you've added a microSD card to your Prime, move as much of your personal data to the card. Things like photos, music, and videos, especially if you have a lot of them, proportionally tend to take up the most space.

I have all the photos, music and videos in an sd card. The problem is, that there will be a time when I won't even be able to install the apps updates.
Forgot to say, like a month after I bought it in July, there came a software update. From Kit Kat to Lollipop. This update messed up the sound, (now it's too low) and took a lot of space in my device storage memory. I just browsed sth and now I have 2.19 gb. I am getting desperate!
Sorry if the capacity is not too good but this model is as much as I could afford.
So, another idea?
Thanks for trying to help me anyway...

I'm assuming you've already gone through and uninstalled any apps you don't need. For some apps, like the Facebook app, you might want to just use your browser to access FB -- https://m.facebook.com -- so you can remove the Facebook app itself. (When you're uninstalling apps permanently be sure to 'Force stop' and then 'Clear data'. By clearing the data, that wipes any saved settings and configurations along the app's cache.)

Short of going through the process of rooting your Prime and then installing a more trimmed down, more efficient third-party ROM over the factory ROM, there are some options for non-rooted phones to help you remove system apps, those that you can't normally remove. I haven't used either but there are several postings here in the Forums for:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro

Be safe and just disable items first to make sure your phone's functionality isn't affected, then later when everything appears to be working OK remove them.

Lollipop killed a lot of old devices with limited hardware resource. You should have stayed with KK.

Anyways, even if you didn't install a lot of apps, your current apps can also take up the space slowly. I've seen Facebook app with more than 600mb worth of data and its cousin Messenger with more than 200mb of data on disk.

So you have to manually clear your apps data as often as possible.

My device is brand new. Besides, software upgrades cannot be stopped. I tried, I wanted to sick to kit kat but couldn't be done.
