Help Great tethering speeds... dead battery.. looking for external battery

okay, so while im tething, i have plugged into wall outlet and battery still is dying... (DLing at 2.3MB/s) are there any external battery chargers that are stronger when it comes to charging? im usually DLing pretty long when i do DL ( unlimited data)
 
That battery is only putting out 600mA max. I believe the wall charger puts out 550mA or more.

You will not see any increase with that battery pack IMO. I would suspect that your phone will act the same way it is now being plugged into the wall.

With that being said then the battery will drain faster with the external battery than with the wall charger.

that external battery would only be useful if needing to charge your phone battery while not using it.
 
Some (most? all?) tethering apps 'turn off' charging while tethering, I presume that's to keep the battery from overheating. Check yours to see if it's one of the ones that does that. If it is, then I wouldn't expect an external battery to help. Since the external battery would just plug in to the charging port I would expect the device to see this as a 'charger' than a 'battery', and behave accordingly.

Great observation. I wasn't aware that tethering apps did that. Does make a lot of sense though seeing how hot the phone gets when tethering.
 
monoprice.com has a cheap external battery for people on a budget. they always have good products at below retail prices. I get all my hdmi and cat5 cables from there and never had a problem.

You are confusing mAh and mA. Two different things.

mAh = Milliamp-Hours - This is the power capacity of a battery. The higher the mAh, the longer a battery will last on a charge.

mA = Milliamps - This is the current output of a battery/charger that is used to charge a battery.

That is not the case. An external power pack will in fact charge a device. Albeit, depending on the power pack, not very efficiently.

Also in a previous post by Szadzik they stated that a wall charger output is 850mAh. That is impossible as chargers don't output mAh's they output mA's. Again, two completely different things. I missed that error earlier.

Totally right about my typo with mAh. Battery capacity is measured in mAh (one of many methods) and charger power is measure in mA/A.

Still a batterypack will ususally output less than a wall charger and will usually not be able to provide enoughpower for the device to charge while tethering. It is much more porbable that will happen with a wall charger.

Right. I wouldn't depend on a battery pack while tethering.

I'm not real sure why anyone would need a battery pack unless you were camping or hiking and have absolutely no access to a power source.

I udr battery packs while travelling. Power outlets do not always work ok Emirates flights and sometimes on smaller planes are not available at all. Some airports do not have them either. If I travel for 36-48 hours I need to have something to keep my phone and tablet running.
