Group messaging in stock messenger app?

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn on support for group messaging in the stock messenger app? My family tends to like to send out group messages from iPhones and they don't show up that way on my phone.

No, it doesn't support it. Most of my coworkers have I phones so I used google messenger on my work phone which does group messaging. Textra also supports group messaging as well. I'm sure there are others but these are ones I use.

Try Google messenger. It's what I use at work and I do a lot of group messaging. Never gave me any issues.

I also just discovered the lack of group messaging in the stock SMS app. It seems strange that LG would omit such a basic feature. I'm now on a quest to find a solution. This is my wife's phone, and she is not a "techie", so I need to keep the solution simple.

Tried QKSMS, but it didn't seem to handle group MMS correctly.

Tried Textra, and it seems to handle group MMS ok, but the free version displays ads.

Tried Google Messenger, with is nice and simple and seems to handle group MMS ok, but it doesn't show the unread message count (notification badge) on the app icon. I found an app called Notifyer which can add a notification badge to the icon, but it is uses a widget to do so, so you can't put the icon with badge in the dock (the row of icons a that are locked to the bottom of the home screen).

I have read that some 3rd party launchers like Nova allow widgets in the dock, but I don't really want to switch launchers.

Has anyone else come across any other solutions?

For now I'm using Google Messenger with Notifyer, and putting the widget on the main home screen just above the dock. Note that I also had to fiddle with the Notifyer settings to increase the size of the widget to more closely match the other home screen icons.

Chomp is made by the same people as Textra, so between those two I think it's just a matter of preference. I believe Chomp has a few more features, while Textra favors simplicity.

Interestingly, the stock messaging app does know how to display group messages if they are received while another app is set as the primary messaging app. It seems like the the support for group messaging is in there, but there just isn't a setting to enable it.

So far I think my wife is happy with the Google Messenger setup that I mentioned earlier.

Textra is worth the couple of bucks to get rid of the ads.
I think it's like 3 bucks or something and that money goes to some hard working devs who put a lot of work into Textra. So my suggestion is to use Textra and pay a couple bucks to do away with the ads.

The ads in Textra aren't all that intrusive honestly. I rarely even see them since I usually just reply from the popup.
