Group Messaging Problems

I'm in a group chat and it's sort of like just a passing around information group chat so I'm not active. But the messaging app sent me a message saying "We haven't heard from you so we're going to stop sending messages from this group. Don't worry, you can start getting messages again by replying to this text."
I want to respond but i have no idea if my response will be sent to everyone else's phones. Has anyone else experienced this?

How was the group made, was it through the actual messaging app or is it using a different service?
(Do you see the names of participants in the app?)
Because this sounds similar to GroupMe.
GroupMe is an app that allows you to make a group with some users that only have sms.
If you're added to a groupme group u would get a text from a random number saying welcome to GroupMe...
And if you don't write anything, then after some time it would automatically remove you. If it is GroupMe that you are using, then simply reply with #resume and it will not be sent to anyone.
