Grouping notifications

I'm sure this is a common requirement, but I can't find it anywhere. I work at a desk with a PC. While I'm sat at my desk, I have gmail, my work email, google talk etc all open and I use them on my PC, but I still take calls on my phone. When I'm away from my desk, I do all my email, gmail, chat etc from my phone (its running android 4.1.1).

What I'd like is a sort of semi-mute mode; an easy way of muting email, gmail and chat notifications but not phone or SMS notifications. Does such a beast exist?

I guess an alternative would be an easy way to make a button to switch between notification sounds.

Obviously I could go around and enable / disable all the separate notifications every time I sit down or get up, but honestly I can't see myself actually doing it.

Thanks for any help!

Boy do I feel stupid. My girlfriend knew how to do this.

Change the volume and when the volume bar appears on the screen, touch the cog next to it for detailed settings. You can independently vary the volume of the notifications from there.

I have never perfected it, but Tasker (and similar products) can have actions triggered by cell tower signals (i.e. when I am near cell tower X I am at home so turn on wifi).

Also, there is an entire subforum here dedicated to tasker if you decide to buy it and need help.
