GS2 big internet problems

Pesso114

Newbie
I have a 5 months old GS2 and a month ago the internet speed just dropped to 20-30 kb/s (PS - I have a Romanian Carrier called Orange). The usual internet speed was around 200-300kb/s, maybe more. I then noticed that the connectivity indicator thing was showing just a "H"...now it show's only "3G". If I remember good, when there wasn't anything wrong with the phone, it was showing "H+" and "3G", I believe it was constantly switching between them. I searched a bit on google and discovered that there are a lot of cases in which the GS2 has problems with 3G connectivity. I rebooted the phone 10 min ago hoping that the problem will go away...well guess what, it didn't.

So I don't really know what more I can do right now. I will go to a service station soon but until then, maybe someone will give me some help.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Pesso114!

First of all, before blaming your SGSII, you should check that it is not your carrier, Orange, to blame for your loss of signal quality as it is not unknown for carriers to degrade their signals if a system becomes overloaded. You could also check that there are no faults in your area and that they are not upgrading the network.

Is this happening in all locations that you use, or just one?

Is this happening 24/7 or at certain times of day?

If you use another carriers SIM card, do you get 3G?

Have you upgraded your firmware recently or flashed a custom ROM?

Have you checked your APN settings and Network mode?

Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks

Have you checked what signal strength you are actually getting?

Settings > About phone > Status > Signal strength

Hope this helps :D

Thanks for the Welcome. I also thought it might be carrier or the SIM Card but it's not. I introduced the SIM Card into another GS2 and it has no problems.

- yes, it happens in all locations at any time (well the internet option available every day but from 9AM to 5PM)
- this is the only thing I forgot to do, to enter a new SIM Card in my phone...will do that tomorrow
- no I haven't done any update to the phone since it's my first smartphone and I don't really want to start messing with it
- APN and Network mode are all alright (GSM/WCDMA turned on, everything is good there)
- signal strength is also good

Even though it show's 3G, I don't really think it works because the battery goes down very fast when 3G is on

Worth trying a new sim card.
