Help GS2 modding project

Hello all.

I am a Samsung junkie.

I have a Galaxy s2 that I'd like to turn into a dedicated music player.
Looking for suggestions as to how I should go about this.

I'm not a bit afraid to root it to remove all the bloatware as well as any other stuff that I will no longer use since this device will no longer be a phone at all.
All I'd like to keep would be the wifi and bluetooth connection firmware, maybe camera / video as well, and of course the OS.

Id like some feedback on which apps to get & which to avoid.
Should I root & start with a whole new OS?
Has someone else already done this?

Any and all constructive feedback is most welcome.

I was just cleaning out some old junk & found my old HTC evo. I was thinking I should use it as my proving ground so to speak.

Does anyone know the best OS it can handle & point me towards a tutorial of how to swap it in to the device?

It honestly depends?

Like the Samsung OS (Touchwiz)? Root it and flash a custom-dedoxed (removed all bloatware) rom and most of them have extra features.

HTC is the same thing. Like the OS? Find a dedoxed custom ROM and flash it. It will be the same OS, but without any bloatware.

Want a Stock-like feel? Look at the Nexus devices for example. try a bunch of custom roms. Those are nothing but stock. Like Cyanogenmod. When you get the ROM. There's only a few apps until you flash GAPPS and sometimes you can choose even just to get only Google Play and nothing else like GPlay Games or Newsstand or whatever.

All of those remove all the bloatware and keep no-carrier apps gone. It's really easy once you get the hang of it. Follow a guide and you'll get it straight away. You might even learn a thing or two. And if you brick it, you always have the android forums and other forums for help.

XDA and other places are great places to start with tons of custom roms for the Gs2 and the HTC Evo. There are also tons of guides.

Thanks litrosnob. I've been reading up on the different ways to go about this ajd the roms avaliable. Quite a learning experience.

I'm quite sure I'll get the hang of this quickly enough.
