GS3 Dropped thread

Forgive me if there is already a thread like this, but I did not see one. The durability of this phone has me worried. I am coming from DX that I had for 2 years and dropped probably 5 or 6 times. It has always worked and never broke. Scuff marks is it. Yes, I know Moto has a better build quality. I am loving my GS3 but am afraid that it will break as easily as a :cough cough: iPhone.

I've seen a few different posts of theres breaking after a slight fall. Figure it would be great to have a thread with reports of all dropped SG3's with details of the fall and if it was with a case, and what case.

I am still up in the air on whether or not to get insurance at roughly $8/month and $100 deductable. Over a two year span, that would be about $300 and right now a new screen runs about $230 so would still come out ahead without getting the insurance.

So how about it? Have you dropped your GS3? Please report details.

please dont drop your phone, that piece of technology wants to be babied, get a screen protector, nice rubber case + leather case for belt, because when times comes to ugrade and sell it it will all be F8*ked up, so take care of it, as much as you can!

If you do not buy insurance, I highly suggest a high quality case. I accidently broke my screen from a minor 3ft drop. I was being cheap and ordered a case off the net which hadn't arrived yet. I havent had this phone for 24 hrs. Although I like the features of the phone, after the replacement comes, I will be seriously looking at the EVO Lte. My EVO 4g was rock solid and lasted me over 2 1/2 years and endured many drops. It was a heavier, more rugged phone. These newer phones are just too thin, and fragile. My buddy at work has the EVO Lte, and while I admit, it is not as featured filled as the Sammy, it does feel more solid in the hands.

I'm finding out that build quality is more important for me than some gadgets. To each his own though. The S3 is the best of the two IMO. But for what I need, I think I'm willing to take the few trade offs of the HTC for longevity reasons. But I am biased. Like I said, my last HTC was rock solid.

I didn't find the DX rock solid when I dropped it less than 2 feet onto my wood coffee table face first. The glass didn't break at all, but the display had a permanent large black spot on it that kept growing. I think I'm going to go with the insurance again, but this time I'll probably cancel it after a year or so.

I dropped my DX so many times on concrete without issue that I finally cancelled the insurance. Dropped many times after that still with no issue. In fact, after spending $5 recently to replace the only two plastic pieces on the phone, the top and bottom bumper pieces, it looks like new again.

The DX is the first phone I ever went the distance on and had a full two years. Nothing else has ever come close. Not even the StarTac back in '96 when I spent $800 on a pre-release copy I got from a motorola executive. I was the only one I saw with one for 6 months. Even that phone for it's time couldn't compare.
