GSM Nexus arriving Thursday BUT....

GSM Nexus arriving Thursday(yayy!) but the Straight Talk sim will not arrive until Monday(boo!),so obviously I can't activate it until then.

For those of you that also got a gsm Nexus but for whatever reason didn't get it activated right away did you power it on and play with it or did you leave it alone?

I'm assuming it wouldn't be wise to do anything with the phone until I can activate it other than maybe making sure it's fully charged??

This is a 1st for me...every other phone I've ever had has either been activated when I got it or I activated it right after receiving it.

You shouldn't have any problems playing with it because it's unlocked meaning if you don't have the sim you can still use it :)

i would turn wifi on and go ahead and add my google accts and social accts. You could set it most of the way up and then just do the Cell activation part when you get the sim card.

My Nexus arrived yesterday at 2:39pm (UPS), and I was already playing with it by the time my Straight Talk SIM arrived at 2:47pm (FedEx). Had my Otterbox Defender shown up too (USPS) it would have been the perfect storm.

My activation when without a hitch yesterday, EXCEPT... if, when you're setting up your account, your email address is 31-50 characters long, you'll be able to enter it in the "email" field, but not the "confirm email" field. There's a bug on the account setup page, and the first field is limited to 50 characters, but the second is limited to 30. My account setup kept failing because I didn't realize that the last character of my 31-character email address wasn't being accepted in the field, so when I submitted, the address weren't the same and the account setup failed. I worked around the problem using Chrome to "Inspect element" and changed the 30 character limit to 50.

Wow...........now there is a bug i never knew of!

you will be fine to play with it for a while just using Wi-fi. i have done that on a few of my phones. when the SIM comes in, just pop in in the back and activate it....you will be good to go.

After ordering Tuesday evening, I was shocked when I got a message it had been shipped early Wednesday morning (about 1:30 am). I figured, with the holiday, that I would likely be getting the phone Monday. I've been anxiously checking UPS since then and finally, I'm just now showing that my phone is in transit. Best of all, it shows that it should be here tomorrow.

Now if I can just get the sim card soon...
