Root [Guide] How to setup Gparted/Alpharev (or any .ISO) with VMware Player (updated Jan 2012)

Got VMware to install and ran through your guide on this thread, it was the Norton that was the problem (isn't it always, I getting rid of it). Followed your step by step process on FAQ]ROOT MEMORY: a2sd+ / partitions but got a bit stuck when it came to resizing the partition as I couldn't find the drop down menu with the SD card in it. Don't want to mess it up while I'm tired so I'll try and watch Lector's video in the morning and see if I can sort it. As always thanks for the rapid support. My wife has just got the Galaxy S2 so I hope the support for that is as good as for the desire.

Ok. watched a few of the videos and followed your guide and got everything to run and made a 1Gb ext partition. However when I mounted the Desire, GParted showed the following devices or partitions for my 16Gb card:
/dev/sda (1.00 GiB)
/dev/sdb (14.90 GiB)
The sda partition was unallocated. On the sdb there was 4.00 Mib unallocated and 14.89 GiB Fat32. I resized the FAT32 to give me the ext partition. Could I have erased the unallocated bits and used the whole 16Gb? Can go back and redo it as I haven't flashed a ROM yet.
Thanks again:)

It's fine as it is. There sometimes is a couple of MB unallocated as Gparted aligns the partition for best performance

i cant use VMware as i have a crap cpu.........whats the next best thing to use ??

EDIT - found an older 32 bit version but it does not work the same, when i click creata virtual machine it just give me options to select a folder :s

its just asking me to open a virtual machine not create one, it obviously does not work the same as the newer vmware player......is there an alternative ?

EDIT - Do not know why i am even bothering doing it this way when i can just create a disc lol, its so much easier !

Hi SUroot,

Recently I have been going through a problem about upgrading to ROMS and specifically partitioning my SD card *here*.

But anyway thats another story.
The link you provided (Gparted vid) is currently unavailable
It might be temporary but is there a brief GUI guide on how to partition the SD card for A2SD ROMS?
Thanks :)

Nevermind,It didn't work on my HTC that's all =)
