Root [GUIDE] HowTo Root ZTE Avid on Linux (Ubuntu)

Sepero

Linux Guru
This guide was largely made possible by kcurtis106 and his thread here, and with excellent testing help from nitridet. No ZTE Drivers are needed.

  1. Download the file root_for_zte_avid.tar.bz2 to your computer and extract it.
  2. Plug the phone in.
  3. Find the file root-linux.sh, and Click on it.
  4. Select Run In Terminal
  5. Type your root password in the terminal
The script will guide you from there. Hold VOLUME DOWN through the whole process.

After rooting, if Superuser asks to update- select "Normal" install

Awesome thanks! Anytime u need me as your test rat, hills back!;)

Took me a few weeks. But finally got this to work with Mountain Lion. It would not load adb-linux, so I edited the root-linux.sh file in pico, changed it from adb-linux to just adb.
Then I copied adb from my android platform-tools folder in my applications folder, to the root_for_zte_avid file. And now I am rooted.. but busy box didn't install.

Congratulations alexspaceman. Since you have root, you can probably install busybox from the playstore.
