Root [Guide] Quick and Dirty PRL Update Kit

PRL = "Peferred Roaming List" is a list that list all the towers the device can connect to. The PRL affects your call quality, data speeds, and signal strength. The newest PRL is not always the best, so play around with each one.

This is a faster method of updating your PRL, compared to the standard method ex. Leslie Ann's "Fix Everything" Method. You will be restoring a backup of a Gingerbread ROM made by ramjet, that has the capabilities to update PRL manually unlike other ROMs, the reason for that is because this ROM has a EPST.APK capable of manually updating PRL. If you're reading this from your phone, its advised to write down the steps before hand being that this ROM do not have any data connection for our phone. The PRL I switched to is 61092, but I plan on trying the older PRLs too. The PRL 61009 is the best PRL at the moment though. Ill be continuing to add PRLs in the future.

Requirements:
S-Off
4Ext(or CWM)
ENG HBoot 1.04
No Computer Needed

Steps:
1. Download Kit
2. Extract To ("/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup")
3. Boot Into Recovery
4. Restore Backup
5. Reboot Into ROM
6. Turn Off Airplane Mode
7. Get MSL using MSL Reader
8. Write Down MSL code
9. Go to dialer & enter ##775#
10. Click Update PRL
11. Select PRL then press "OK"
12. Click Menu key to open menu
14. Click Commit
15. Then reboot into a ROM with data to test data speeds.

Just a reminder, this has the PRL from LeslieAnn Thread plus more so you could always go back if you don't like a PRL you picked.

I just wanted to clarify that the reason I put this guide and kit together is that the interest in trying different PRL's continues even though changing them usually doesn't make much difference. That's why I've included apps in the kit to measure your signal strength and data throughput and unless you see a noticeable improvement it's really not worth changing from the default PRL that gets downloaded via system settings in a stock(ish) ROM.

The one exception is that the Sprint corporate PRL allows data roaming which the consumer PRL doesn't but I don't think that applies to Virgin Mobile users anyway.

Thanks for this. Turns out the very bottom PRL was the only one that gave me a tiny bit of signal in my house. Just enough for receiving text messages. :] 00002 was the one that worked for me.

Negative never mind. I get an error code 67 about my data connection. Any thoughts on what I can do? That's the only PRL that gives me signal in my area. :/

That means that your credentials aren't being properly verified by the network, you can try doing a profile update, if that doesn't work and you still have the error after reverting back to the stock prl you'll have to call in and have your service re provisioned.

Virgin Mobile have been having a lot of service-sided issues lately, where you would have to call them from a stock ROM so they can reprovision your account.

I'm on the Negalite Blurom and I can update my PRL back to 61009 so I'm fine. I just want to get the PRL 00002 to work for me.
