Root [Guide] Unbrick LG Venice

This guide will show you how to Unbrick the LG Venice. This can also be used to upgrade the LG Venice to JellyBean (May 20th, 2013). Whether you are unbricking or upgrading you WILL loose root access and everything on the device besides the files in the external SD card. As of May 20th, 2013 the LG Venice has NO root for JellyBean. The way people keep root on JellyBean is by getting on OTA root keeper and updating the LG Venice through on OTA update. I made a guide previously for the upgrade to JellyBean (for those having issues with the OTA update).
Lets get started with the guide.

What you need:
- A Computer on Windows (Only tested OS)
- LG Venice (Obviously :P)
- USB Cable to connect to PC
- Ability to install programs on the PC

This method is pretty safe and used to unbrick some phones (Can also be used for upgrades), but just incase I'm in no way responsible for any damage to your Venice. Only you are, do this at your own risk.
I HAVE done this sucessfully on an LG Venice before, I also unbricked it on ICS, both times sucessful.
I've also used KDZ to unbrick the LG Lucid and downgrade it.

Download these files and extract the .zip file: Zippyshare.com - Files.zip
- I did NOT make any of these tools!

1. Install "LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.7.1".
- These are drivers so the phone can be detected by the PC and flash JellyBean.
- Added Install "msxml" as well!

2. Get your phones IMEI/MEID by removing the back cover and battery, read and the IMEI/MEID will be there.

3. Open "Orignal LG Firmware" Enter "LG730" in "Model of phone" and your IMEI/MEID in the "Phone serial number" field.
- It says serial, but in the post I got this tool from it was edited and actually needs the IMEI/MEID number.

4. Choose a file save location and save the file. The firmware will be a .cab file.

5. Goto the KDZ folder and open "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin" (If you're on a netbook and the program doesn't fit on screen download altmove)

6. In "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin" Goto "Encrypt cab file to kdz file" and select the .cab file that just downloaded and hit the "encrypt cab -> kdz" button and wait for program to finish.
- File will show up on the top left side of the program under "test"

7. Connect your LG Venice to the PC in download mode.
- Download mode can be accessed by powering off the device. Connect it to the PC and boot it holding power up + down and the power button. It'll say download mode on screen.

8. Open "KDZ_FW_UPD" Set the phone mode to emergency and select the kdz file that UpTestModEX just made.

9. Click launch software update.
- THE PROGRAM WILL FREEZE UP! DO NOT REMOVE THE WIRE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE VENICE AND PC OR CLOSE KDZ! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING SHOULD GO WRONG!
- The program will tell you when finished.
- Venice not detected by KDZ? Uninstall ALL Venice drivers and only install the one in step one.

The following steps are optional, but recommended.

10. Disconnect the Venice from the PC and unmount the SD Card via settings.
- Then physically remove the SD card.

11. Power off the Venice fully.

12. Perform a HARD factory reset.
- This can be done by booting the phone holding the home key, volume down and power button. Follow on screen instructions to perform the hard factory reset.

Congratulations, your LG Venice is unbricked/upgraded.

When I launch UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe, I get a Microsoft Visual C++ run time error:

"This application has caused the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information."

I'm running Win XP sp3. Does that make a difference?

Try updating your Microsoft Visua C++ and see if that helps.

Should run fine, try updating the C++ program. That should help. (I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate)

I just spent the past four hours "phone phiddling" trying to get an LG 730 that I bought off eBay to reflash. The symptom: the mind-numbing loop of the LG logo screen!

I tried the LG Mobile Support Tool but it coughed and stopped a couple times. I tried the UPTest and the KDZ tools a couple times each (after installing the drivers and running the MSI install a couple times). No luck, just the continued logo looping with not ability to get a hard reset.

I think the trick was your instructions here to use the "Original LG Firmware.exe" application into which I put the model number and IMEI (its the 18-digit number under the batttery, no letters). The KDZ file that was generated looks to be the 4.1.2 version of Android. The other attempts I made were with the original version, the 'ZV5' revision, downloaded from the LG-phones.org site.

I noticed there were some problems with the new 4.1.2 version so I might try reverting to stock so I can get root access too.

So, thank you very much for your work to put together a detailed and helpful guide. Your efforts really saved me an evening of grief and frustration. I really appreciate your contribution!!!

First off thanks alot for that concise and easy to follow guide, my phone turns on now! I am having one issue however, I keep getting a message saying Unfortunately google play store has stopped" My phone was rooted previous to the upgrade/unbrick and i haven't performed the hard reset. Would that fix the problem?
My other question was if i can downgrade using the program you supplied to gain root again...

I'm STILL stuck in LG logo sir. Ive tried putting it into download fast boot and factory reset mode but it wont do anything but do the LG logo again . I have NOT tried to put it in Emergency Mode but only because i don't know how.. Please Help Thanks in advance!
