It is never safe to change your boot.img if you don't have cwm,you will feal like a dumb ass if you get a soft brick with no way to restore.

Hope u read what i said in the first place its bootanimation not BOOT.IMG. incase you dont know what bootanimation is its the animation that plays during the phone startup, boot.img is related to the kernel

Where did you get the replacement bootanimations from? And if you would be as so kind to explain how and which files you used to do this.

Sure bro, the easiest and best way to change the animation is via rom toolbox which has the built in bootanimation changer and has like hundreds of them too chose from. Also refer to this thread http://androidforums.com/esteem-all-things-root/482125-esteem-boot-animation-thread.html you can use those animation as well what you will have to do is. the booanimation file is located in /system/media folder of the LG connect you have to be rooted of course, if you have messed with android system file then you should know the risk the bootanimation.zip is what you will need to replace but you will have to be careful as this can cause you to be stuck in start up screen if done wrong. Awesome just tired romtoolbox free version out it lets you change bootanimation in free version. Okay just changed and checked that its safe to use the romtoolbox, but take caution please dont use the HTC thunderbolt boot animation this one is known to cause brick and i take no responsibility please be careful while performing this.

Ok so I got the rom toolbox and downloaded the first animation the Alex Grey one, I looked (via root explorer) and saw that the boot animation zip file was indeed changed to the new anime and out does work, however the new anime image wasn't full screen so I uninstalled it but the anime is still active. Also I looked at the bout animation zip file and the og zip animation is gone, is there a way to get that back?

N/m forgot I had a back up I saved on my PC, just replace it with the one that's in the folder, got it! Very nifty my friend thanks so much. Any way to get a sound on the start up?

sure glad to be of help, also about sound yes had this is mind also I will check it out, since its an LG phone and they are too lazy to edit the system file to remove craps made for other carriers most likely they forgot to change the startup sound which is why it doesnt load. For example in esteem the only way you can set up a sound to play during boot is by renaming the mp3 to MetroPCS_PowerOn.mp3 so most likely this could be a solution also this file is located on system\sounds\power\ in the esteem. I will try this and post feedback thanks

mine does not make a sound when i start either.

this is what my folder looks like:

do i need to change from ogg to mp3 or wav?

Ok, I tried ES File Explorer and ROM Toolbox but my boot animation doesn't change. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I granted ES File Explorer superuser permission but it still says I can't move my bootanimation.
In ROM Toolbox I downloaded two animations then installed them but I can't figure out how to make either one the default.
