Since it sounds like you've gone through software-based steps to reset the Gyro (or rather GPS), if this is instead a hardware failure problem since you recently got this phone it should still have repair/replacement warranty coverage, yes?
You referred to VR but are there also problems using any map apps? (i.e. Google Maps) Those also rely upon GPS and orientation sensors. Also, where is this 'drift' issue occurring? The Gyro sensor is more about physical orientation of the phone itself, GPS is more about location (drift). GPS relies upon satellite detection so in some places like a basement or below ground apartments/offices where there aren't even windows to the outside, that can be a problem.
If the problem is only with whatever VR app you're using, it may not be your phone but rather the app.
