Root Hack Ace - Work Great - Still cant get Tmobile

harthenry

Lurker
I just rooted my phone with Hack Ace, and it worked like a charm. This was for my HTC Inspire phone via AT&T. I want to use my T-Mobile SIM, although the phone appears to be unlocked (no longer asking for unlock code), under phone/settings/networks there are no Mobile Networks. IE: I show an "x" for no tower signal, in addition, the Mobile Network option is grayed out.

I have been searching the BBS(s) for quite some time, however, I have not found anything yet. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks,
HH

are you still on the downgrade firmware? if so,id ruu or flash a rom to get back on something more current. it would also not be a bad idea to flash a newer radio.

make sure the back cover is on your phone,it acts as an antenna and you wont get any signal without it.

i am using my inspire on t mobile as well. i didnt use the AAHK,i used the exploit that it uses(gfree),after downgrading manually.

the inspire works fine on t mobile, but be aware that you wont get any better than edge data with an att device on t mobile :(

All I did was just perform the Ace Hack root. I have been reading about the CM7 rom. Is that what you are suggesting ... IE: install the CM7 rom on the HTC Phone. It looks fairly straight forward and simple. Regarding signal, I went outside, and still nothing.
Thanks for your help -- any info, no matter how silly you think it is to pass my way, please keep it coming. As you can probably tell, this is my first Root Job!
Thanks,
HH

cm7 is a good rom.

you might provide for us your software build number(settings/about phone) and also the information on your hboot screen(pull battery, hold vold down and power until it turns on to a white screen with colored letters)

do you have a phone signal yet?

I took the phone completely apart (including back cover, SIM, battery, etc). Used my CDA compressor (Clean, Dry, Air). Blew everything out, re-assembled, went back outside -- waited about 2 minutes -- and my t-mobile signal came back alive!!! Made my first phone call to Time/Temperature guy -- worked great thanks.

Does this mean I still need the CM7 Rom? The phone seems to be working OK (I do not have a data plan yet, however, WiFi is working great).

Thanks,
HH

awsome! glad you got it working. no,you dont need to flash the cm7 rom if you dont want to. if youre happy with the phone as it is,you acn certainly just use it :)

the aahk does typically downgrade your rom to an older, exploitable unbranded version. if youre on that, your sound may not be working, and the radio is old,and possibly not very efficient. it would be a good idea for you to post the info i requested above,so we can see what software build and firmware youre on.

it may be a good idea for you to upgrade to something newer :)

Here is the software build number: 2.47.502.7 running under Android 2.3.3.

I just purchased a data plan, and the data is slow "E" version versus H+ (H+ is ATT lingo, not sure what 4g is on TMobile) -- hence, I think "E" Data is really slow 3G or possibly 1G :)

I am assuming the radio technology on ATT and TMobile are not the same, hence, step down to slower speeds.

If you are happy with the stock firmware, but just want to be able to use your phone on T-mobile, then I think your best bet would be to just run the most up to date unbranded RUU... this would put you on the most recent firmware and be as if you had got it from HTC. You would receive updates OTA and it would be stock (no longer rooted), but would function perfectly well.

If you wanted to be rooted at any point in future, it would be easy to sort out and we would be able to help you out.

Scotty - do you have a copy of the Sens 3.0 RUU for the Inspire? Is it the same as the one I have for the DHD? Just not sure if there's any difference between the 2!

actually edge is more like 1x...a bout 600kbps  its nothing to write home about. the difference is the frequency that each gsm carrier uses for 3g and 4g speeds. the att handset has different physical radios than a t mobile branded handset.

but from your build number and baseband, you are on atts most current software, wich is fine if you want to leave it at that.

the unbranded sense 3.0 rom D-U-R-X is quite nice also, and there are custom roms based on it. ARHD is a popular one: [ROM] Android Revolution HD 7.0.4 | High Quality & Performance | O/C | Legendary - xda-developers

here is a link for the unbranded sense 3.0 factory software: Shipped ROMs

note that it will overwrite your custom recovery and eng hboot, requiring you to reinstall them if you want to remain rooted. id prolly reccomend going the ARHD route if you want to stay rotoed, and go the ruu route if you want to be unbranded stock :)

last and not least, the unbranded ruu is the same for inspire and DHD. they are both ace! :D

Thanks guys for the info. As you can probably tell, I am pretty "green" when it comes to phones. In fact, I do not know the difference between a cell phone and a chromosome phone? I downloaded both the ARHD and the Super Wipe programs. I searched for quite some time on how to perform the installs, only to find out that I was spending way too much time looking for an answer when it is actually quite simple. I found a good answer on how to install here:

Yes, the 1G speed on the phone moves at glacial speeds, however, the phone is one of the "Family Lines" from T-Mobile at $5 and the 2Gig unlimited plan is $25. That does seem a little high especially since T-Mobile wants an additional $10 for texting! So, I thought I would just get the $25 data plan and get a free IP texting program. Is there something I am over-looking? Is there a less expense Data/Texting route than the $25?
Thanks, HH

when i signed up for my prepay line, there was an online only option for $30 unlimited data and text, and 100 phone minutes for a new line.

i take my vzw phone to work with me,and when i leave for somewhere in the evening i take a t mobile phone(inspire or sensation). i fwd my texts from the vzw phone so i dont miss anything. i dont use it to talk on,so the 100 minutes isnt a factor for me,im mainly concerned with data a nd texting.

at the time, there was a $50 unlimted everything prepay, but i havent looked at it in awhile,so i dont know if any of that has changed

if your $5 family line includes unlimited talk,id say your 2g $25 plan should work fine, using an app like "text free now" for texting,or $35 doesnt sound terrible if you want the texts to come from your number.

migt also look at the prepay options available if you start up a new line. you can always carry 1 phone for talk, and one for data :D

edge or E data is about 600kbps.
my sensation on 3g is 2-3 mbps.
sensation on good, strong 4g is 4-5 mbps typically, but can be as high as 8.

for what its worth, installing roms is straigntforward. i personally have never bothered with superwips,or even ext 4 until recently(when ARHD installed it for me )

post up if ya have any more questions :)

I think I am just going to keep the $25 Data plan, and get the Text Free app. Sounds like the best way to go.

Thanks again for all your help --- I think it is time for me to turn the phone over to my daughter (who turns 13 in a week - yikes!) her first phone, and my first strand of the umbilical chord to cut. Appreciate all the help.....

I used ACE root to unlock my Inspire, and my T Mobile SIM is working just fine with one exception. I can make a call, but I can't hear anything and they person I'm calling can't hear me. The phone was working fine on AT&T this morning before I ported a number off it. I hadn't changed the ROM, just downgraded and rooted/unlocked via ACE.

Any suggestions on what might have happened?

the older firmware is not completely compatible, your issue is common on the old downgrade firmware. i would try and upgrade back to either the most current att or wwe roms:

att: Shipped ROMs

wwe(unbranded): Shipped ROMs

note that these are zip files, rename PD98IMG and flash in hboot :)

youll have to reinstall recovery, then flash su after the ruu flashes
ext 4 recovery: PD98IMG_ace_recovery_ext_4.zip
