If they installed some hidden app to do this you might be able to see it in Settings -> Manage Apps and/or you might be able to see if when you look at active processes.
If you are concerned that this has happened, do a factory reset on the phone and the suspect app will disappear. You'll also need to set up your phone again, connect it to the wireless carrier, and re-install all of your apps and data.

There are some anti-virus apps on the market, but I don't really know if they would check for anything like that or if they are anything other than cashgrab apps for scared technophobes. Something worth looking at though.
