I took my samsung mesmerize in to have it worked on and the idiots restored the factory settings without unmounting the sd card.I lost my music videos and photos. Can I get them back?

Sorry to hear that. As long as the files were on SD rather than the phone's internal storage you've a good chance of recovering them (I won't ask why those clowns wiped the card - on most phones it's perfectly possible to do a factory reset of the phone without affecting the card!). The most important thing is not to use the card in the meanwhile, as anything you write to it could be overwriting the information you wish to recover.
The simplest solution is to use a PC. There are a lot of file recovery utilities for these, many of which are free. I'm not a Windows person, so can't really recommend one, but I remember the name "recuva" from other threads on this. A quick google search will bring up recommendations. Install a file recovery tool, mount the card on the PC (either using a card reader, or using the phone connected via usb in disk drive/mass storage mode), and use the file recovery software to restore everything that's recoverable.
You should be able to get most things back. A few years ago someone I know accidentally erased the memory card in their camera, and I was able to recover all but one of their photos this way.
