Root halllllllllp!!!!

I rooted my phone and now it isnt rooted and doesnt have sound! How can i fix it? Thanks in advance

We need more information to help you. What did you use to root? The easy root method or the long way? After rooting did you flash the stock inspire rom back? If not, you're not getting sound because of the incorrect ROM.

Best bet would be to get a custom ROM like CynogenMod 7 or Android Revolution. You'll get gingerbread and way better performance than stock.

If you already have root, go into the Market and download "ROM Manager".

Once that is installed launch the application, select "download rom". There you should see a list with several available ROM's, best choice would be CynogenMod. It should be at the top of the list of free ROM's.

After you have completed the download, choose the "install ROM from SD card" option, navigate to the new ROM you just downloaded on your phone and let the phone do the rest. WARNING: This will cause you to lose all of your data on the phone. Be sure all photos, music, movies, etc. are saved to the memory card before installing the ROM. Also, make sure your contacts are synced with your google account.

Android market will automatically redownload all of your apps once you re-sign into the market after flashing the ROM. You can do a nandroid backup of your device so that you essentially have a capture of your device and settings before flashing the ROM, but unfortunately I have never done this because I didn't mind setting my home screens and preferences back up. You should be able to find a ton of info about performing a nandroid backup by searching "nandroid" on the forums.

Ok rom manager says my phone is not rooted.... I have no sound from ringtones, music, apps, or in call... ok the only thing it added was the option to install from non market apps... now my computer wont recognize my phone, and the htc sync software wont recognize my phone... I have the drivers installed but idk.... all I did was search google for android 4g root and used the first link... it was working fine and my phone booted into h mode... did a little downgrade, clock something, root and blah blah blah button... so then after it got done with the first cycle it said that my phone was supposed to boot back into hboot but it didnt and it started normally... that was yesterday before work... I left my friends house that I did it at... and realized I had no sound. I am coming back today and I feel helpless because the computer wont even recognize my phone..

this is what I used

Sounds like a stepped was missed.

Download the stock Inspire ROM, here Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Either connecting your phone as "disk drive" or by inserting your microSD card into an adapter and putting in a media card reader, copy the file you downloaded above to the root of the SD card. Rename the file to PD98IMG.zip, insert back into the phone. Then, press and hold the power button and "volume down" button at the same time to boot into recovery. There is an option in there relating to restoring or installing an image. You should be able to select that option and the device will reinstall the stock Android ROM like you had it from the factory.

Once that is complete, you will need to start back at the beginning if you still want to root.

EDIT: BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR CONTACTS TO YOUR GOOGLE SYNC BEFORE DOING THIS AS YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA AND HAVE TO SETUP YOUR PHONE LIKE IT WAS NEW. ANDROID APPS WILL AUTOMATICALLY REDOWNLOAD UPON SIGNING INTO THE MARKET.

what does the red triangle with an exclamation mark mean.... I did what you said booted into the power and vol down mode... went to recovery from the option and pressed the power briefly... then this came up... to clarify I downloaded the zip file from the link and unzipped it onto the micro sd

to leave the triangle-screen:

-press Volume up ("+") and the power-button.
-select "Reboot system now"

My mistake, I should have been a little more clear. You don't want to unzip the contents onto the microSD card. You want to move the actual zip file onto the card. The recovery process reads directly from the .zip file on your sd card.

I was talking about the zip... after reading this I named it PD98IMG.zip and the same error comes up at the same part... I hope I didnt mess up my recovery mode when I missed a step

ive tried factory wiping it and clearing the cache... I tried the update option and it says invalid... idk whats wrong... is it because its not rooted?

I was thinking of how to get the drivers completely off my computer and fresh install the drivers to see if that will make the program I used previously to recognize my phone and maybe restart the process.

ok so i uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled all of them... I made a gold card and am updating now... hopefully this time I dont mess it up and maybe it will work... thanks for your help so far btw.

Glad to hear that fully removing the drivers and reinstalling them let you see your device on your PC again. Take it slow and I'm sure you can get through them. It took me between 1-1.5 hours to get everything because I double checked every step.

No problem, I'm glad I can help you the same way I got help from others. Sorry for the long wait, was in a business meeting.
