It was always my favorite event as a child and I tried my best to make it special for my children. I was never a big candy eater but the fun of perusing the neighborhood in a costume was right up my alley. It was exciting and even a bit scary when I was little and I tried to make it scary for the tricksters when I was older. I have continued that tradition my entire adult life. I dress up and I have my home heavily decorated. If any kids happen to come down my dark street, they are bound to stop at my house with my display and lighting. I give out factory wrapped candies nowadays but back in the day it was popcorn balls or candied apples. That's the houses I loved as a kid so I tried to do my share of paying it forward. It's a shame that the screwballs of this world have ruined it for the kids. And it was hell to pay for the people that turned out their lights and gave out nothing when I was a kid. TP and soap were more than a subtle reminder that their lack of participation was unacceptable.
