HandCent HELP!! SMS to MMS convert

Well-Known Member
Well, I really like handcent, BUT, if I can't solve this it's no good for me:

When using the standard msg app, when the SMS exceeds the # of characters, it gives a short msg, this will now be a MMS. and I keep typing as most of my contacts get the MMS no prob.

Handcent, has options to "Split" a long msg. into several short sms msgs, BUT, no way it seems that a nice long message can just be a MMS message.
I dont understand because it does support MMS no problem, so what in the world am I doing wroing.

Not to mention, anytime I try to send a long msg, it will not send. I just want it to convert over to MMS and send along??
Please Help...any help or comments would be appreciated.

I'll check out GO SMS, but one of the nice features of handcent, it had a Mic. right under Menu, to allow dictation, which alot of Androids have for txt, mine does not. I have an app that takes the dictate, but then it must be sent over to messaging, email, etc. I liked having it right in the texting.

Also, I noticed, it has to be a little bug, because, if I wrote a long message, Handcent still thinks it's a SMS not MMS, BUT all I had to do was attach a small pic, and boom-Switching to MMS. and it would send w/o issue, so why it can't just count to 160 and switch over..?

Well, any other thoughts? Thanks for the input..I take it that GOSMS is a nice app?
I did look at it originally, not sure about the dictation thing, which is something I hold high on my list....

Thank you so much..
Hope to hear some more...
Thanks....J

From memory is there not a tick box that says convert any message over 3 messages long automatically to MMS?

NO, I didn't see one, I was just looking at it. Overall, I'm not unhappy witht the default msg. app....BUT there were just those few features I wanted to have. really the appearance, etc. don't matter too much, bubble view, etc. nice but I can live w/o. Really I just wanted to have the dictation option built in, as my phone you can dictate stuff all over, but when in messaging, no option! Figures

As u all know, it nice when driving or something, to just hit the button, say a sentenance or two, and have it spit out into the txt message.

Also, I just typed a "Long" message on GOSMS and it said message couldn't be sent, I thought it would cut it off at the limit, but no, it just "crapped the bed" (sorry for the disgusting analogy...lol),

My search continues...Thanks.

I do have an app called "Speak and Send", you open, dictate what ever you want, then it gives the option to send this text to messaging, email, etc. Pick messaging, then the recipiant. Problem is you are in and out of messaging and in and out of this app for every message. It's nice for a single one,but way to much to txt back/forth this way. Where like handcent, I could just hit the mic everytime I wanted.

I am really upset about that, such a simple thing that blows the entire thing. All it would have to do is count to 150 or whatever, then switch it to mms like the default app. how hard is that..

OH WELL....THANK YOU ALL FOR THE INPUT....Any more I would love.....or any suggestions or other apps that incorporate dictation into messaging...

Thanks so much.....J

There is an option for that of course!

Handcent>Menu>Settings>Send message settings>Auto convert to MMS

Took me 4 seconds to find it.

I think handcent also has an option to split large messages. so instead of sending it as an MMS you could send it in parts.

Also, isn't there a mic option for your keyboard? If so you could use this. It works perfectly for me. I'm using GOSMS and Gingerbread keyboard from the market. I think GOSMS is better cause of the incredibly fast loading times, customization, and perfect handling of SMS and MMS.
