As the title says... since moving to a sensation XE from my trusty desire I no longer get led warnings I.e. missed call etc... everything seems to b on in the settings.. any ideas

Assuming your phone has a notification LED, you could try LightFlow. I know it works well with many other apps.

just noticed that the led notifications setting is all greyed out. i got handcent free from the market, is there a pro version (paid) with these features added?
