Handcent popup keeps coming back

I have a small problem with Handcent popups. When I get a popup that I don't need to respond to, I read it and close it again. But the popup tends to come back after 5 minutes. I would have thought that closing it indicates that I've read it and that should be the end of the notifications.
Has anyone else got this problem and have you found a way around it?

I don't have Handcent installed so can't check, but some SMS apps have options to remind of unread messages and settings to choose whether closing the popup marks the message as read. Set the first "on" and the second "off" and maybe - if this app has those options - it might do that.
