Handcent SMS is an AWESOME SMS app that in my opinion is the BEST SMS app on the planet. I have used it for years. Extremely customizable and lots of themes are available. Completely blows the default SMS app away!
 
I've been looking for a TXT app that I can sync with all my devices (phone, tablet, PC). Does this do that?
 
I have used Handcent for a while now, only reason I installed it a few yrs ago was because of the ugly Android smileys lol, but I really have got used to it now and a lot of people I know use it.
I might try hangouts for a while to see what the fuss is about but no issues with Handcent for me.

Try mySMS or mighty text. I've used both. Mighty text runs in the background while mySMS has to be the default to push your messages. I currently use mighty text for that reason. I want to maintain the use of my stock sms app.
 
i went off my SMS when it forced me to use it as default. Assumed it was driven by 4.4? Maybe not if mighty still works. Will give that a try.
 
I installed it and things went weird. My texts pop up without me opening it. The colour changed. The most annoying thing is the personalized notification sound for each contact wont work help
