Handcent vs. GoSMS -- which do you prefer?

I used Handcent for over a year before I changed to Go. There's nothing inherently wrong with Handcent, I just wanted a change (I also went from using LauncherPro to Go launcher at the same time so that probably had more to do with me changing than any problems with Handcent).

I have to admit that I personally prefer Go's themes more than Handcent and I also like the delivery notifications it gives you.

The wife still uses Handcent and she seems perfectly happy with that so for me personally I think it's a wash between the two.

I installed handcent today on my gsm, because with the new android 2.3.7 I cannot see incoming sms when my phone is locked. The only thing I don't like it the screen which appear in the middle with the text of the sms on it. Actually I only want a sms icoon in the notification bar, and my phone flashing when I receive a sms, also when its locked.

Can somebody help me?

I used Handcent first and did not like it at all, but it was better than stock. Then I found Go SMS and loved it until they started with all of the login stuff to do backups and everything else.

I went back to Handcent and liked it a lot more than when I first tried it. I also find it less laggy than Go SMS has become as of late.

I've been trying some other SMS apps as well. Pansi was okay, but it didn't last long because it couldn't send any of my photos from my camera as an MMS. I tried another one recently, I forget the name of it however.

Handcent for sure. Downloaded gosms just to check it out and ended up uninstalling in the first 10mins

I prefer the appearance of Go (after tweaking one of the themes to my tastes). But I'm using an old version - as with a lot of Go apps they kept adding stuff that was of no interest to me and to my mind cluttered the interface, so I stopped updating.

I tried both apps. They are quiet identical. I would choose the handcent because its got option of automatic keyboard pop-up for text.

I prefer GOSMS to Handcent, HOWEVER, there is one thing I wanted to do that I couldn't figure out in Go, so I had to install Handcent for one thing. (then I uninstalled it).

Can you send sounds? I made a ringtone that a friend wanted and I couldn't figure out how to send it to her with GO....

Has anyone else done that?

When you press the mms button, all the media options show up. :o

Are you talking about sending sounds with gosms or handcent?

If you are talking about gosms this is how I do it

open up gosms....type or enter the recipients contact name
look at the icons just below the the text box that you type in
click the icon furthest to the right
this will bring up a box that shows different items oyu can attach
example...pictures...capture picture..videos etc.
There will be an option for audios...click it and then select the file you want to send
Then send it

Hope that helps :)

I've been a GoSMS user since 2011. They push updates *all* the time, usually with little easter eggs related to an upcoming holiday. For example, before Valentine's Day, if I typed "love", a little EKG-style heart graphic would run. Just a little silly, not too obtrusive.

I've put off upgrading lately, though, because I want to see if anyone else has tried the "My Center and task system". The "What's New" says this will let you "finish simple task to get credit, and use the credit to exchange paid themes". I'd like to know more about the "simple task" they'd like me to complete, and how much credit towards themes I get. I'm sure it's advertising related. :P
