handset speaker volume

My speaker volume is VERY low (to specify, the speaker at the top of the screen, NOT the loudspeaker). My Blackview 9900 runs Android 9. Blackview says the phone cannot run Android 10, and all I can find is Lineage OS 17.1 if I want to upgrade. Anyway, speaker is clean. No case or screen protector, volume is at max for in call. All other volumes are loud and work well.

I am trying to enter engineering mode, I have read that the max volume can be adjusted in there. None of the codes work for me that are to be entered in the keypad. I have downloaded MTK Engineering Mode app, although it says that Cannot find engineering mode app - mediatek chipset is mandatory and stock ROM must be installed. All I have done is update OTA through the manufacturer once since I bought the phone. Any ideas on how to boost the volume, or should I pursue installing Lineage. Thanks for your help!

or........get a better phone.

no idea if rooting will boost volume or not. it could be the hardware and in which there is nothing you can do about it.
