Help Hangouts force closing

Hi everybody. I just updated to 5.1 with the ota that came in this morning. Now every once in a while it tells me, "unfortunately hangouts has stopped working". Problem is I have hangouts disabled no idea why it would be force closing. Any ideas?. Thank you all for the help,

Hi Anthony!

A few things you can try:
  1. Reboot the phone. It sounds dumb, but that can seriously help alleviate certain intermittent crashes like this.
  2. Clear the app's data. Settings > Apps > Hangouts > Force Close and Clear Data. Launch the app manually and see if the crashes persist.
  3. Uninstall app updates. Settings > Apps > Hangouts > Disable or Uninstall Updates. Once it is reset to its original version, update Hangouts from the Play Store and see if it continues to cause problems.
  4. Remove and re-add your Google account. Settings > Accounts > Google > (you)@gmail.com, Menu > Remove account. (Or something like that... sorry, don't have a phone in front of me so I'm going from memory!)
  5. Wipe the cache partition. Power off the phone, and then press and hold the Volume-Down and Power buttons. Once the bootloader loads, use the Volume-Down button to scroll through the options until you see Recovery, and then press the power button. You'll then get into the stock recovery, which looks like a broken robot lying on his (its?) back. Hold the power button while you tap the Volume-Up button, then release them both. You should see a menu magically appear. Again use the volume keys to scroll through the options until you reach the "wipe cache partition" option, and select it with the Power button. Reboot - it will take a while to rebuild the caches, but hopefully once it finishes your problem will be corrected.
If that still doesn't do it, it may be time to try flashing the factory image to make sure you are starting from a clean slate. Let me know if that's necessary and we can walk you through it. :)

Had the same problem....cleared cashe & data problem went away.
 
Hi everybody, sorry for the delay bit of an update, so I enabled cleared cache and data, disabled again. So far no more force closing... Thank you so much to everyone who helped , I appreciate all the help,
