Hangouts?

Am I missing something? I don't see a new hangouts app or a google talk app. Play store says I have it and it replaces Talk. Where is it? Is it a standalone app or do I go thru google+!

App drawer is sorted by alpha. No sign of gtalk. I have g+. I used the link above in chrome, sent me to play store, in chrome, clicked open on the hangouts page in Play. Took me to the Talk app on my phone, which I can't see to find anywhere.

I was having the same issue with updating to the Hangouts due to me already having Google Talk, Messenger, & Plus on my phone. I did exactly what El Presidente suggested and it work. Just go to the Google Play Store on your pc and push the new "Hangouts" app to your phone. You will see that it will then replace your Google Talk & Messenger apps.

Go through a browser to install.

For me I had to go to Play Store and search "hangouts". It was about the 7th result on the page. I clicked the link and got a page error about 10 times in an hour. Then finally I was able to install from my browser.

Then there was no Hangouts icon on my homescreen as there should have been. But Hangouts ("Hangouts", not "google Hangouts" so it will be in H) was in my app drawer and Talk was deleted.

Oddly, I had a shortcut to Talk that was not deleted and it launched to Hangout.

I installed it via my iPad. It sent the app to my phone and it worked. However, i still have no icon for hangouts. It's open in my multitasking window, so, if I close it, I'm screwed.

I tried to uninstall, but it just brought me back to Talk, which I also cannot see in the app tray. Could it be a Sense 5 issue?

Nope. I'm using Samsung, so I don't have Sense. If I go to Play Store on my PC, its already installed, so I'm not sure how I push it to the phone.

Ok, it MUST be an HTC/sense issue. I installed Apex to see what would happen and sure enough hangouts shows up in the App tray. All is well if I'm running a non HTC launcher. GAH!!!!

Tried to push from Chrome web browser. No luck.

Says it's already installed and my phone is grayed out.

Using Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Had to download the apk and install it. Now it shows up and Talk is gone. Installed before and it said installed but was nowhere to be found.

Has anyone figure out the app yet?
I mean some of my contacts have multiple email addresses so it shows them multiple times in the contact list but I have no way of knowing which one is the one I should be messaging?
Also if I message someone who does not have the hangouts app, what does it do? email, sms?
My brother doesn't have the hangouts app yet but he has talk, when I try to message him on hangouts I don't think he receives anything?

Have them message you. That will start a thread for you that you can just keep going as it will remain in your initial Hangouts screen when you start the app

What a horrible replacement for Google Talk. Multiple contacts, no way to sort online contacts, I'm very disappointed.

Most likely rushed out to meet the Google io deadline. SMS has already been announced for it. Guessing a multitude of fixes are coming.

There is a problem when using the landscape, split keyboard in Google Hangouts. When typing in landscape, I see a key that says <Execute>. I assume this is supposed to be the <Send> key to send my message, but it doesn't work. Instead, after typing my message, I have to press the <Back> key to exit the keyboard and then tap on the send icon to send my message.

This does not happen with Swype. When I use that Swype in landscape mode, there is a <Send> key which I can tap on to send my message without having to back out of the keyboard.

It has problems when going from landscape to portrait or vice versa (in video chat). Losing video all the time.

I have the same problem with Swiftkey. It works fine in portrait but in landscape I have to hit back to send.
