Hard Drive --sort of a backup--Question

Hey Guys,

So, I have an external WD MyBook 2TB hard drive that I keep all my music on. A friend of mine has the same exact 2TB hard drive. At one point, we copied all the files from mine on to his, which was blank at the time. So, obviously at that time we had identical hard drives. I, in the meantime have gone on collecting files, and I'd like to transfer to them to his hard drive.

The only method I know of would be to wipe his clean, and then copy everything over again, taking another 12 hours to do it. Does anyone have a better solution?

So effectively you want to synchronise the drives? You should be able to do this with the free version of Syncback from these guys

(I'm assuming you're on Windows...if not then post back and I'll sort an alternative for you..)

That is very true. I had mentioned that as the only option I knew of, and I'd love to avoid to that.

1. I don't keep track of which files would be new to his hard drive, so it'd be impossible to go in and find which to drag and drop.

2. Since I don't know which files he'd need to square up, I could wipe his clean and copy all of them. 430gb takes QUITE a while to copy, I'd love to avoid that every few months when we plan to back up these drives.
 
If you perform a backup from your drive to his, Window's will change the attribute on the files, so then next time you perform a back up it will then only copy over the files that do not have the backup attribute which thus would only copy over the new files.

i like it, i like it. I'll check out some instructions on the best way to back up files. Thanks dood.
