Android Question

I have a CATerpillar S50 phone with Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) installed on it. After 2 years of using the phone I have decided to reinstall it to the initial stage because my phone is very damaged due to some apps (most of my built-in apps are gone now and with a factory reset I can't get them back)

I want to do a hard reset but I do not know how to open the menu where I can clean it up and do a fresh install. I've tried turn off my phone and then to hold power button with volume up button at the same time but it does not get the menu opened - instead it turns my phone on. I've also tried power button with volume down at the same time but it turns my phone on again but with a written "Safe mode" text on lower left side of the screen.

what should I do?

  1. Open apps and tap on Settings
  2. Then scroll down to Backup and reset and tap on it
  3. From there you should see the Factory reset option and tap on that
  4. Read the info then tap on Reset phone
  5. Read the info again then tap on Erase everything
  6. From here it should be back to the way you bought it

Hi,
If you want a" factory fresh "reset
You can do a hard reset( force reset).
Go to settings> account> Google
Cancel syncing.
Go to settings> Backup & reset
Uncheck the options
Backup my data and,
Automatic restore.
Go to settings> account> Google>
Remove account.
Data will be completely lost.
Open the link below and
Select the second option for the reset.

Just to be clear though, there is no difference between "hard reset" and "factory reset" - they are just different names for the same thing, and all that it does is wipe user-installed apps and settings/data. If the system apps are actually damaged (which shouldn't be possible without root, either by the user or by malware) then a reset will not fix this.

So if, as your first paragraph implies, you have already done a factory reset and it has made no difference then what you want is not a "hard reset" but to reflash the device with stock firmware. I don't know how to do that for that model, but the first thing I'd do is check the manufacturer's site or even ask them, because an official source is safest. A Google search on "caterpillar s50 stock firmware" did turn up a site claiming to have a download of the original firmware and instructions to install it, but as it was somewhere I've never heard of before I cannot attest to its reliability (which is why I've not posted a link here).
